I will be installing KORE system tomorrow, Oo. The new Bilstein shocks come with 250 psi nitrogen and are fully extended. KORE directions says to purge shocks prior to install to compress shock, however I talked with Greg Boardman and he says I should be able to install shocks without purging, i. e. fully extended. Has anyone done this install without purging? And, if I do have to purge, how do you connect an air compressor to Schrader valve to temporarily fill with air. Special fitting required??

Also, on rear mini-pak install: I have the camper package and understand that I have to remove the top-most and bottom-most leaves prior to installing mini-pak. Please confirm.

Thanks for any guidance.

Try it first without discharging -

twopipes,

If I was to install again, I would try to get the shocks in without discharging the nitrogen. It was a real pain to get them filled with nitrogen again.

Kent Kroeker also told me that it's possible to install without discharging the nitrogen, but I discharged the front shocks anyway. In Kent's words - "it's a finesse fitment". If your install goes the way mine did, you'll have to disconnect the upper control arms anyway to get enough axle droop for the install. Go ahead and try to get the shocks in with full charge. If you can't, then you'll only have to discharge and fill again, and it'll be no worse than you thought originally.

If you purge them, you can use your normal Schrader air chuck to put a bit of air in the shocks until you can get somewhere for a nitrogen fill. My biggest problem was finding the nitrogen, and someone that would fill the shocks without raping me with the cost. I finally found a guy that rebuilds motorcycle shocks. He recharged them, and didn't even want any payment. I gave him $40, and told him to enjoy a nice dinner with his wife.

For the rear shocks, you can lever the bottom shaft eye into place with a large screwdriver. Worked very easily for me. And yes, you will lose both the upper and lower overload leaves with the mini-pak installation.

Hope this helps,

John

twopipes,

I agree with everything jsellers said. I discharged my front shocks and the hardest thing was finding someone to recharge them. I found a mechanic at a local bike and snowmobile shop that was able to refill them. I thought the new kits have a different design on the shock tower that allows you to mount the shock without discharging them. Also, if you are installing the Bilstein steering damper I have mine charged to 110 psi I found that 250 psi made the truck turn to the left while driving. Just follow the instructions and the install should go smoothly. (Very good instructions IMO).

Have fun,
