This question is for those of us that live in the road salt areas.

I was wondering how many of you that have the Kore Weld Wheels leave them on all year round. How well do they hold up to the salt? Do you put anything 'special' on them? This is my first set of aftermarket wheels, and never thought about it with the OEM wheels. I’m hoping I can leave them on without having any problems.

Thanks

My suggestion would be NOT to run them this winter. I ruined a set of Weld wheels (Velociti 8) two winters ago running them over the mountain passes in Washington and Oregon. Although we do not salt the roads here in the Northwest, we do use anti icing chemicals on some mountain passes and counties, and those chemicals started to make the chrome peal, pit, etc. Having lived in the Midwest with the salt, and knowing how corrosive it is, I wouldn't run the nice wheel package you have. I have a new set of Weld's that I run 3 seasons a year, but in the winter, I run black steel Allied Type 81 rims. Just my 2 cents. I'm sorry if it's not what you wanted to hear. Maybe the folks at KORE or Weld could answer your question better than I.

Good luck, -Ken

I called Weld with similar questions.

They told me specifically that their wheels have a 5 year chrome warranty, and that you never need to put anything on them to keep their shine.

They also told me that Windex is the best cleaning product to keep them looking good.

Whatever...

I don't believe that these wheels would hold up to 4 salty winters.

I will be running my Welds year round and at their price they better hold up.

My wifes OEM chrome plated alloys still look new with 2 winters.

We get several feet of snow and they sand the roads but I think mix in some other stuff too.

I am coming up on my 3rd year of my welds in for a missouri winter, and they salt the roads like its margarita glass, lots of it. Mine still look good, I just try to get it washed as soon as the temps rise above 30. I polish and wax them once a year usually in the spring.
