I was asked to post this for a non-TDR user who recently purchased a Kwikspool B1A through Wildcat Diesel... ... . disclaimer-this is not an ad for Wildcat or KwikKurt, this is not my truck and these are not my words so if anyone finds this either exciting or disturbing remember I am only the muse :D .

"Another pleased KS-B1-A [Kwikspool B-1 Auto turbo] BOMBer

Switched from a regular HX-40 non-wastegated to the B-1A and there sure is a big difference. First thing I noticed was the sound... definately moving some air.

Next thing was the rapid spool up.

First combination for the truck was DD 3's, Drag Comp [pump wire not hooked up], HX-40 and the Scotty Air II that SUCKS... Cool air. :D

I had some smoke on the bottom end but it was like a large gulp before the boost came on with that combination... I attribute that to 'lag'. max/spike boost of 38 and max constant boost 36.

Then with the B1-A hooked up I would get a more constant stream of smoke but not nearly as thick. Boost went up a few pounds to max/spike of 42 and constant of 40. The dyno runs show approximately 20 HP but we all know the variables there... driver, Barometer, altitude, time of day, wind speed and direction, temp of the george Foreman Grill and the color of the markers the dyno operator is using to plot the graphs. :D It does feel faster and more responsive.

On the dyno with the first combination I would see egts climbing fast and I would be backing out of it when the temp was going over 1400F.

With the B1-A I would see 1275F max.

At this rate I will have EGT's in the freezing zone when I am done doing the 'censored' and the multi 'censored'.

During these runs the dyno room was 51-55C which is wayup there in the 110 plus F and higher.

I then tried an EZ pulse with the wire hooked up. Peak boost of 48 and constant of 46. Real smooth power but I do know I am at the limits of the stock fuel supply so the 'censored' system goes on next. Full out throttle all thru the gears and stayed on it to a speed that is over the posted limits and I never saw it go past 1250-1275F. This turbo can bark a bit but it sure does help the ETH purr!

Did I mention that the Scotty Air II SUCKS cool air?

Thanks Kurt Yardley and thanks for getting Wildcat hooked up as your Canuk Konnection. Rod will be sending you a farm grown custom blue sweater. "

So who else is running one? Kat has one if memory serves me correctly..... anyone else?

I don't have one yet. It has shipped tho so its enroute.

I have had a regular housing B1, and been running the AT-4 for a few months (smaller then the B1). I am awaiting the arrival of my Kwikspool B1 anxiously.

Just for the record... ... ... on my truck there has been :

HY35, PDR HX35 12cm², Kwikspool HX40, Regular B1, AT-4, and very soon Kwikspool B1.

The AT-4 is a decent turbo..... just can't flow enough air for my application. Temps get too high in the upper levels. I am going back to the B1 for temperture drops, and durabilty.

Sorry man-didn't mean to put words in your mouth-guess I confused the AT4 and the B1A... .

Hopefully you'll get yours ASAP and you can add your findings.

I have a Kwikspool B-1, now that I have a comp box that is working, I again have temp problems, but not nearly as bad as my hx35/16. I never tried a different turbo, just a 14 wastegated, and a 16 non wastegated. I saw 40psi with the HX35/14 that was running 275's, the highest Banks stuff, and an EZ stacked on top. With the KS B-1, DDII's and a Drag Comp I see 42psi max. The turbo is pretty laggy on the bottom end, but builds extremely quick once it gets over 10psi. My truck will smoke quite a bit even on setting 1,1 setting 5,5 will turn day into night! I can get into the 1400's on setting 1,1. Anything over 3,3 I'm well into the 1500's Highest I've seen on the Spa is 1576. Towing a moderate load (14k gross) up a 7% grade in 95* weather at 72mph in top gear had the egt's at 1350-1375, boost was 28-30, plenty of throttle left, but the dang engine was overheating, I need to clean the radiator.

The turbo barks extremely easy, any time you shift without holding a little throttle. And it will bark with constant throttle at a low rpm with a moderate load and a hill, I have to either step on it, or shift down.

All in all, I'm happy with the turbo, although now that the temps are hotter, I don't like the lag. A little cooler on the egt's would help, but they aren't bad for normal driving. I've been considering a Piers HX40 to see if the lag is lower, but I don't wanna shell out the bucks for an experiment, and with my luck my temps would go through the roof.

I must add that I am at 5000ft. When I was at sea level the turbo was AWESOME!! I feel that Kurt's turbo is probably the best turbo for all around. I'm probably just wanting more than any single turbo is capable of.

Still workin on twins :D

no problem at all, just wanted to clarify things is all, as you can see I have had a couple of differen turbos :D

Anxiously awaiting the arrival of my KS B1.

After this tho is twins... ... ;)

I spoke to Kwik Kurt about a week ago, he said he's working on the next generation KS B-1 for us auto guys, in fact he also said he's ready to purchase a truck with and auto transmission. I have a KS HX-40 12cm with DD2's I just purchased a set of supermentals from PIERS Diesel, I'm sure I'll have to upgrade my turbo.

I'll be selling my KS HX-40 12cm and DD2's I only have about 3k miles on them, so if anyone is interested let my know, It will be a few months before i'll be ready to sell.

I pulled the pin on a Piers Super 40-actually have to call again this afternoon to clarify a couple things..... that will hold me over for a while. I desperately want a VGT turbo setup-for the style of driving I do 99% of the time it would be perfect. Maybe a VGT HX55 eh? :) Something for me to dream about anyways... ...

I actually helped put this turbo on. I was way impressed with the way the waste gates where plumbed on this turbo. But then the waste gate was inop. Next to the strength of this turbo the waste gate plumbing is right there. But Kirk why not make it work?????

This looks like the cats meow for the small turbo on twins w/ the waste gate hooked up!!!!!!!!

The wastegate is not needed..... yet :D

When it is needed it will be put to use.

How would you compare this to your PDR HX40 Dee?

Kat, Just looking at and installing this turbo. I would say it is a great single. The dual waste gate design is great but only if it works. One thing I was disappointed with was the lack of adepter for the exhaust. Had we not had the welding and fa-bing master Ian Hoyle to make the exhaust and modify the oil down pipe we would have had to put his HX-40 back on.

The Pier HX-40 is about 1/2 the price and comes with a down pipe and is truely a bolt on, the B1a isn't.

The turbo might not need the waste gate to work correctly but IMO our engines do. And having that dual waste gate that has streamline flowed is super.

It would solve the problem I had up in Calgary on that dyno of going over the waste gate setting. My waste gate is set to be fully open at 40 PSI, but on the big truck dyno up there in Calgary it lifted when I hit 44 PSI. I was driving the turbo past the waste gate with one side of the turbo only which IMO isn't good.

I am more than pleased with the Piers Super HX-40 it spools up as fast as my old HX-35/16 and has alot more mid and top end and it allows me to tow and use more power than ever before.
