I was wondering if anyone knew a bit about trouble shooting the KSB. In my Chrysler manual is says if 12v is applied and no click is heard one is to replace it. I tried this on two trucks one stock and mine and no click was heard. I was also wondering what the Cummins PN was as I am having a hard time tracking one down for a decent price.

Thanks

hello CT. you didn't say what the problem is. but, I just got done checking out my 'ksb' valve. my system is loder than yours but works the same. I have a ballast resistor in line on mine, you don't. If you look at your shut off slinoid you will see two wires, one goes to the ignition the other to the ' ksb' sensor on the intake manifold. check for voltage[12v] going into the sensor and coming out. do this BEFORE you start the engine in the morning. A really east way to do this is to check for voltage at the sensor. if you have power, it's working power wise. as far as mechanical you can run a jumper wire to the valve after the engine is warm. the idle will change if it is working.

is this enough info?

KSB

Thanks

I have power to the solenoid but,I never thought of jumping the solenoid after the engine is warm. It sounds like the right thing to do to see if it is working or not. I hope that it is still working because the cheapest I can find it is $280. From a local diesel shop. Chrysler only wants $722 for the whole assembly. For that much a guy might as well get a whole new injection pump.

Idea

The KSB soleniod should not cost that much, and it is normally not the whole system that needs to be replaced. I would tend to think that it is the temperature sensor that is located on the intake manifold that has failed. I replaced both of the temp sensors on my pick-up (one for the KSB and one for the grid heaters) for I think no more then $60. 00 total, and it is easy.

Warning, I don't know what year your truck is, but do not run 12VDC to the KSB soleniod for any longer then it takes to make it move a little. They only run on 10VDC so at 12 you could roast it and be basck to square one

Good Luck,

KSB

I don't know why this is, but whenever I hear a 1st gen truck drive by (and you know the KSB is working correctly) it is always so much louder than mine, at idle and at acceleration. WIth my KSB working fine, the truck gets WAY quieter at idle, and when I accelerate, it has no growl to it, and it alsmost sounds like a noisy gas engine with a loud turbo. Why is this? Sometime, I'm tempted to unplug the KSB so it stays loud, cause when the cold advance thing is on, its really loud. How come mine is so quiet? Thanks for any input, I'm just curious and I don't want to kill my truck by leaving the KSB unplugged.

hey jaynes, don't do that. ONE, when the KSB valve is working it blocks the fuel return and advances the timing WAY up there. your pump will go POOF! the noise you want may be gained by tuning. another thing to think about is maybe your truck doesn't need as much throttle to move as the other ones you hear. and timing will affect the noise at and idle.

on our trucks the KSB only works at cold start up so unpluging it is like wetting your pants in a dark suit, it'll give you a warm feeling but nobody will notice

Neat

I don't have it unplugged, because I know what it could do to my pump, but when I bought two years ago, it was unplugged, and I didn't know the difference, until I was playing with my truck and found it unplugged and I plugged it back in and my loud roaring engine dropped to loud hum. Have no idea how long this guy had it like that either.

. . . its like wetting your pants in a dark suit, it'll give you a warm feeling but nodody will notice.

Hahaha. Never heard that one before. Thanks for the info, I was just curious
