i was wondering if i could buy them one at a time. buy the ksb1, run it, then get the wastegated manifold from piers as funds come available, or would that just be a bad idea?

if i could do it what kinda of boost would i need to stay under for the turbo to survive? the head is o-ringed for what its worth.

also could that perticular turbo be incorperated into a practicle set of twins later on down the road, or would i have to go to a pdrhx-40 as the small charger?

thank you for bearing with me. i am learning as i go with all this.

You could get the B-1 and buy it ready for Twins then get the manifold and later build a set of Twins with say a Big Brother on the bottom and divorce the wastegate air to the Big Turbo, the 40-B/B work really good together that I know, it's all up to you but any of them are doable. One note Fitting the B/B is not for the faint at heart, just takes some patients. You can get all the items from Piers and he's getting R&D all the time from us.

it seems a rephrasing is in order here.

i would like to know if the ksb1 would survive in a non waste-gated situation if a little care was taken to not blatantly go out to blow it up?

with an o-ringed head and a decent amount of fuel what would be a good level of boost to stay below in order to insure its survivability until funds come available for the ext. waste-gated exhaust manifold?

why not just get a wastgated B-1? For the same price... ... ... and it spools up faster then the KSB. Call Bell turbos up. I just put one on my pickup.

Ok, Luke wrote the last two posts... now it's my turn... .

You can't blow up the B1, so don't worry about it. High boost isn't an issue. I just had my housing changed today from a KSB-1-2 to a standard housing B-1-2 to lower my boost and get more top end flow. My EGT's are down, spool up is down probably 200 RPMs, but top end pull has been increased two-fold! Now on 3x5 it pulls at the top end like it used to on 5x5. I wish I had a free dyno close to run on to see the difference, but the seat-o-the-pants meter says big improvement.

BTW, on the way to Phoenix this morning I hit 54 PSI boost with the KSB-1-2... I backed out of it at 75 MPH for fear of buying a new headgasket! On the way home after the change to the B-1-2 I only hit 45 PSI, but it was pulling a lot harder, and the MPH were climbing much faster.

Ken told me today that they had a single charger making 68 PSI w/ no problems... that's their highest PSI single to date though.

BTW, if you are going to buy a B1, either buy from Piers or Ken... personally I'd stick w/ the source through Ken, but that's just me. I probably would stay away from anybody selling anything kwikly. ;)

Oh, and I may end up with a wastegate of some sort on my turbo to try and get even more EGT reduction and more top end... they still climb to well past 1600*F at my altitude, although it takes considerably longer now.
