I have a Kubota tractor that is about 16 years old and has 1700 trouble free hours on it.



My first question is. One of the injectors is leaking what appears to be oil between the injector and the block. And I think that it is also losing some compression here because when it is cold sometimes you can popping (like air squeezing out) sound when the piston is on the compression stroke. How hard is it to pull the injector and is it just an o-ring or something similair that seal the injector in?



Is it possible to pull the injectors and have them professionaly cleaned and recalibrated?



Is it possible to turn up the pump on this engine to increase the power a little bit, but without doing any damage to the hydro. transmission.



It does have glowplugs but I'm not sure how many work. Is there any easy way to test them?



Lastly it seems low on power and smokes a little more than normal (black smoke). Is this a combination of the leaking injector and the injectors being old?



Now some info on the tractor:

Kubota B8200 4x4

19hp 3 cyl. Diesel

3 speed hydrostatic transmission

Air and fuel filter just recently changed with no noticeable increase in performance.



Sorry this is so long.

I'm hoping to work on it myself as the Kubota dealer charges $45 per hour and I don't want to pay that.

My 15 year old, 3800 hour B8200 was smoking and seemed low on power also. Went to scrape away gunk from around the valve cover so I could adjust the valves when one of the head bolt heads scraped right off! On further inspection all the bolts on one side of the head had the heads broken off, they were just held on by paint. They had looked just fine with a visual inspection. Replaced the bolts and everything is fine. Used a counter clockwise turning drill bit to remove the broken bolts, they all came out easily without an eze-out. My neighbor has the same tractor, I showed him what I had found, his were broken also.

Worth a look.

This is the only work I've ever done on the engine except changing fluids, filters and valve adjustments. Lots of smoke from the blowby but the oil level stays up.
 
I'll have to check the head bolts and see how they look. It has never had a valve adjustment so I should probably do that also.

Might as well do the valves because the bolts on the left side are under the valve cover. All of my broken ones were on the left side though. I found the broken ones by trying to tighten them, all were rusty like they had been broken for quite some time.
 
Well I checked the head bolts and they are all right. Does anyone know how to pull the injectors?
