Kubota V1702 with blown head gasket..........need specs

Can anyone give me specs on a Kubota V1702 engine for deck straightness? It's blown the head gasket between cylinders 2 and 3 and I'm measuring 2.5 thousandths (tight) under a machinist's rule. 2 thousandths slides under easily and 3 thou won't go. I'm leery to just throw a head gasket on it and run it. It got a new cylinder head 5 years ago and has had pretty hard usage since. Any ideas?

I just skimmed through a Yanmar manual out of curiosity. There was no flaness spec given for the block, at least that I could find. My gut tells me .002". Interestingly, the standard for the cylinder head is .002", but the limit was .0059"! Do they even offer a shim gasket if you were to deck it?
 
I was able to find some generic Kubota info at my local machine shop. They give spec of .002 for the block and the same for the head. The head is almost .005 thousandths warped so its getting surfaced right now. We are going to roll the dice and throw a new head gasket on it and see what happens after the head is resurfaced. This engine is kind of a ba$tard child engine as it's in a bobcat and Kubota won't help me out with parts or anything. Matter of fact, the goober parts kid tried to tell me there is no such thing as a Kubota V1702. :-laf

It might be worth a call to Messicks tractor, they deal with a lot of parts and likely far more willing to help then the local dealer.
 
Sounds like a plan, Don. If the head was that far out, as long as there is no erosion of the deck where the gasket blew, I'd feel pretty confident in that repair.
 
We received about 10 donated Kubota engines at the college a couple years back. I contacted Kubota corporate looking for support materials and was referred to a local Kubota dealer. I ended up getting one service manual after many attempts to get additional information. I can't blame the dealer as I don't believe it was his responsibility to take time away from his business to assist the college. Kubota seems to guard their service info like it is top secret material. Not something I expected based on other manufacturers training programs.
 
That’s kind of what I ran into Sag. The Kubota dealer will sell me parts if I supply numbers but they cannot look up any engine serial numbers or parts/components for engines sold in non kubota branded equipment like bobcat, etc.

Something else that is strange, our local kubota dealer doesn’t repair engines.....they sell new ones. They run a strange shop. They’re idea of service is replace with new.

It's like that with Deere. We have Deere power in some of our equipment, and we can't get any support. The next RFP included guaranteed service support on our terms, and Cummins came through. So now there will be a QSB 4.5 where a Deere was.

When I was in the OPE business(20+ years ago)we called that a "four bolt tune-up". We were very old-school and repaired, rather than replaced, even on components. Many fellow dealers thought we were out of our minds.
