Where can I get a wastegate actuator?

Want to loose banjos

I just installed one of J. R. Adkins hybrid HX-55's this past weekend. Easily one of the best modifications I've made to my truck. Install went smoothly, and the results are great. Spools a little slower (stress little) than my stock charger, but not in a pronounced fashion. But once this thing gets to ~7 psi, it shoots to ~40-45 psi almost instantly. I almost couldn't believe that the turbo was as big as the 55 is compared to the 35 based on its behavior. Just wanted to support the vendor of a good and recommended product. I haven't had any other turbos so I can't really do a good comparison, but I can say that I have no desire to get a different turbo!

For those of you who want numbers to back this up, I wish I had some believe me. All I know is that the truck has not lost driveability but has gained a lot of cooling capability. Good job J. R. !

DF, why do you have a link in your sig that is un-useable?? it says you have to register to post, but when you go to register, it says that the mod is taking no more new regs????

(sorry for being off-topic... )

Lil 55

Just wanding what size you are running ?

My truck is about the same as yours.

JR said I would be happier with 55/14 being an auto.

I have the 55/14 as well. You shouldn't have any trouble spooling it. I'm not sure about top end cooling with the Comp turned all the way up (just haven't tried it yet). But from what I've seen, there should be plenty of air. IMHO, you will be very happy with this turbo if you decide to get it.

Diesel Freak - I don't know exactly what he did to the turbo. I understand what you're saying and from a physics standpoint agree completely. Unfortunately, I just don't have an answer for you. As a sidenote, although I understand the dynamics of what's going on here (I'm an engineering undergrad), TravisG has a point. It lights, it lights well for a bigger turbo, and I'm happy with it. Is it for everybody, maybe not. Will I recommend it to just about everybody, at least with a similar setup to mine... absolutely.

no worries, just currious. I agree, once lit, "and" you maintain that power level, it is a no brainer. I am just currious on a less overfueled truck running such a large turbo.

Have you towed with it yet? If so, how heavy? Or is this bast left as a competiton and grocery getter turbo?

I'm not sure how it would work on a less heavily fueled truck. My guess is that it would work at least ok as I don't have the comp turned up for normal driving and it lights just fine.

I haven't towed heavy with it yet. I have been assured that there won't be any problems, but as soon as I do tow something heavy, I'll let you guys know how it works.

I towed with mine, very heavy at some points, Had no complaints would definately buy it again but i am not overfueled for it and building twins. Definately a sweet charger. Towed the pulling truck to many pulls with the 55 on there.

Has anybody checked the drive pressure with a 14 housing?

I think J. R. claims 40psi. of drive pressure to 50psi. boost. This is with his lil'55. (64mm inducer, 14cm housing)

Out of curiousity, when is the best time to inquire about one of these little turbochargers?

Any idea on how big of a load you pulled with it Chris?

What's the next size up in this hybrid series? Or would that be a straight '55?

give J. R. a call. You will probably have to leave him a message. He is a one man one dog shop. He will call you back. I think you can e-mail him at -- email address removed --

He's got all kinds of configuration for the 55 hybrids. From ~64 to 80+ mm inducer, I believe. Give him a call - he's a great guy to talk to and will definitely steer you straight.

Thanks

I won't be making any committment until beginning of April-May. Is that a busy time for him? Don't know when pulling season starts. I just hate to bother a guy until i'm ready to make a committment..... :) Done that several times, gets your hopes up. :(

TMass, I would figure total gross truck, trailer, and load would be around 20K maybe 22k.

When towing heavy like that i had to down shift often with these hills in ky, you just get used to that. Just towing my little trailer with my mowers or something small it was no problem at all.

Definately would recommend it!!.
