I bought a laptop for multiple reasons, one of them to use as a DVD player in the truck for my daughter for trips. I want to find a mount or a way to strap the comp. to the top of the center console in the front so she can see it. any ideas?

I just bought some of the small DVD players so the kids can watch, too. I got tired of the TV sitting where my arm is supposed to be! The cases that came with them can be hung on the back of the front seat with web straps. Maybe someone makes (or you could rig) a similar case. Maybe it would be as simple as a strap of velcro around the console to make sure the laptop stays in place during quick stops.

We use them at work in all our work trucks. Heres the trouble with them. Its a 2ft. tall stick with a 10lbs. weight on the top. Now picture that thing while your going down a city street hitting pot holes, speed bumps, ect. They will drive you insane with all the vibration, ratteling, what not... .

i use mine for a gps map program. Mobile-tronics.com

they have sereral models available, and mount securely, you can see the different models and how they are secured.

thanks for the replies! The jotto one looks interesting but I have the cup smoothie from Geno's and my GPS and CB just forward of that and a 6 speed ( not a lot of space left that is useable)

I used the RV style TV strap mounts once, but you also have to live with the bottom connector stuck to your console when not in use. I have also used lightweight luggage straps to hold down the notebook computer to the console. For the most part the computer will stay in place, but you don't want anything flying around if "stuff" happens. Another option is to use a "six pack" cooler on the floor crammed between the back seat and the console. The notebook computer will sit on top of the cooler and won't move around much. Just noticed that you have a third gen, I don't know if any of these ideas will work, but they might be worth trying out.
