I want to add an iPod adaptor directly to my radio so I can get better sound then using an FM modulator. I settled on an iCarkit #AUX3CHR04 device to install. I searched the web and TDR for a couple of weeks looking for directions on getting into the dash of a truck with the large center console with minimal luck, (I could only find bits and pieces to do the job. ) After looking around my console using a mirror and flashlight, comparing it to the few diagrams I could find I came up with a game plan. I tore into the console this past weekend. I will detail what I did and attach pictures in the following posts.

First and hardest part was removing the wood grained top on the lower part of the console. I could grab the front by the dash and pull up releasing the tabs (red arrows in picture)in front, but couldn't get the back tabs (by the large storage area) off. I used a trim tool (bought it cheap at Harbor Freight) and pried out (away from large storage area) on the wood grained top breaking the driver's side tab. I then realized the tabs were pushed down not back. Prying straight up finally released the remaining 2 tabs. I was in. Three 8mm screws (blue arrows) are holding the bottom of console to floor.

Next step was to get into the center of the dash. Two 8mm screws (blue arrows) are located at the bottom of the center of the dash. Removing these allowed the lowest panel to be pulled out.

The next piece pulls straight down. No screws. Then two Phillips head screws are located about where blue arrows are pointing to release the large bezel surrounding the radio. I had to use a mirror to see the screws. It is advised to not replace these screws once out. Next time I can just grab the center bezel and pull off.

Lastly start at one corner, work trim tool underneath if needed, and start pulling straight out. Some parts will take some force. Red arrows show tab locations, green arrows show where the two lower screws came out and the blue arrows show the four screws holding the radio in.

I have been wanting to upgrade my 05 to something better (OEM w/navigation) but not sure if it is capable. Mine is w/the Harmon Kardon, 6disk, it would have been nice it it came w/ a Aux in for anything one would want to play. .

Very nice write up, complete with pictures!

Mine was not as complicated as yours, but I still had to start at the bottom (with the cup holder) and work my way up. When I got to the radio bezel, I found that the two screws (green arrows) were already missing - I don't know if the dealer had removed them for some reason or the factory left them out. If someone hasn't removed theirs, they might check and see if the bezel can be removed prior to removing all the other stuff.
