One of my buddies on the fire department said his truck quit. I went to help. It is a 2000 with 120k on the clock.

I pulled the codes and it said P460 and 1693, no big deal, he said it would idle but kinda had dead pedel. We changed the ff and cleaned the batteries and grounds, purged the system, reset the apps and started it.

It ran like crap and was lopey and loud and the peddle was dead.

Got an obo reader and came up with more codes?

Got a p252 and a 251 and a 1688 and a 234. Looks like the vp?

Sooo we are lookin for the best/cheapest place to get a vp44. Is this assumption right?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Dirk

I would concur that it sounds like a bad injection pump, make sure the lift pump is working before you put a new injection pump on. PM me if I can help

Dirk,

From what you have posted above you are correct about a bad VP. Give us a call if we can help you out with anything... .

Thanks for the reassurance guys, i would hate for him to buy a new vp and still have a problem. The fp is good i put my spare on there while he went for a new ff.

Any links to get a reasonable price on a vp?

Thanks for the offers to help and the replys.

Dirk

sorry jetpilot, i missed the link the first time , thanks

The SPARE you installed might be OK - but have you thoroughly checked the ORIGILAL LP the VP-44 was using at the time of failure? ;)

No that's why i changed it . I loaned out my fp gauge and could not get ahold of him,so i changed it, just to be sure. I just wanted to make sure i didn't cause any damage, after i heard it run, i knew it was waaay more serious then just a lp and filter... I took this pump off my truck last year, filled it with transmission fluid and put plugs in the holes so it didn't leak, for a spare.

His truck would only run at about 6-700 rpm and was rattelin and Loud, louder then usual, and the pedel was dead, could not rev at all.
