I recently welded in a Bully Dog 4" exhaust from Torbo to Tip including the straight through muffler that came it.

I think it sounds great - less restriction and a little higher pitch (more turbo whine).

My wife is complaining that it's a little too loud for her (go figure... ). :(

Question: Will putting a larger (5 inch) tip on the end of the exhaust change the sound of the exhaust? Louder, softer, higher pitch, lower pitch, etc.

I'd like to try and tone it down a little - -reluctantly. What suggestions/comments would you give me?

Thanks

I Just put a 5 inch tip on my 4 inch exhaust and the only purpose is to look cool(':p')--It does not change the sound. There are several different options out there to change the sound /loudness of your exhaust if you don't like it--many different mufflers to choose from.

This is one of those design drawbacks. The engineers never figured bombing into the equation, or wifes who just don't understand what a real truck is supposed to sound like. If they had thought about these things, they would have had the tailpipe exit on the driver's side. Wouldn't have to have the passengers bundle up so much either. When you roll the window down in cold weather to enjoy the sound, it would be your own window and not the passenger's. :-{}

SAWHEET ! Been there. Done that. Such PROPHETIC words. :) ... that's why we don't go anywhere, even on a warm summer evening, without a small cuddle quilt for my wife's lap. If you want to score big points with her, get her one of these for your next anniversary, her birthday, whatever. She'll love you for it.

Wish these trucks had dual temp controls like the Town and Country vans.

Thanks for help.

tip

First thing I did when I got it home and installed, polished it up. The wife just shook her head. Friend says I have penis envy. :) I said who has the envy here? Didn't change sound, it might enhance the smoke screen feature, not sure. :p

One good thing about having the exhaust tip out the stock location is that it can catch everything coming off the rt rear tire. :--) Another thing is the noise. I was the one whining. :{

You can quiet it down a bunch to the passenger if you have a mandrel bend put in just behind the axle & route it straight out the back. Oo.

Keeps area cleaner

On my '97 3500, the area above the stock tip was always dirty with soot. Since I installed the 5 inch tip, I got from Genos, it never gets dirty.

Ben;

A 4" turndown will soften the grunt inside the cab. You point it to control soot as well as noise.

Where you thinking on a popper stopper or one of the baffled monza tips the kids run on their rice burners?

How about straight back and add the 5" tip. That should quiet the cab and you can justify the cost of the tip, too.

My 2 reale;

-John

thanks for the tips

I'm not sure what I'm looking for. I just needed some suggestions to consider and weigh out.

I was thinking that a tip might help change the tone somewhat. If it had, it would be the simplest thing to do.

I think I'll pipe it straight back and then put a downturn on it.

Thanks for the links and the advise.
