I am looking for a larger diesel tank for my 2500 that I am converting to a 3500. I would like a 60+ gallon tank for the long trips. Does anyone have any answers? I need my bed space, so that won't work for me.
I have installed TransferFlows aft-axle tank on my '98 2500. It adds 38 gal. and is everything they advertise it to be. Only downside is it takes place of spare. They have other models available. Their website is www.transferflow.com.
I went for the Aerotanks 60 gallon, under the bed replacement fuel tank (weblink in profile) and there's enough room for the Rickson 19. 5 inch spare wheel (Yokohama TY303 rubber) too!!
There are several schools of thought on the best tank for your application. Mine was a pragmatic choice, based upon personal experience and a solid recommendation from a friend who made a transcontinental trip from Alaska to the tip of South America and back in a 12 month period, so it fits nicely in the "put it in and forget all about it" category.
Concerns have been raised by others on the TDR about how the Aerotank UTB 60 gals fueltank unit is fixed to the frame, but after 50k miles in all weathers and travelling all over Europe, I have no complaints.
