What tanks are those of you using that have aftermarket tanks installed. I want one that is installed inplace of the OE tank. I hate stopping for fuel while on vaction, as the wife always spends extra on sheep dip I don't need... TIA, Scott

Titan tanks

I have a TITAN TANK in my truck. I have had it on for about 2 years now and love it. It is 55 gallons. I usually go 730 miles b4 I have to fill up at 1/4 of tank left. I am not sure where they are out of but I do know they are made somewhere on the west coast. They are made out of the same material as the stock tanks. I do believe they have a 5 year warranty.

I have a 56 gallon transfer flow. Great quality. It is a metal tank instead of plastic. I like it and the extended range is GRRREAAAT!!!.

I have an aerotank 75 gallon under the bed system. This consists of a 60 gallon main tank and a 15 gallon tank above the spare tire. The little secondary tank is a little inconvenient to fill since you have to displace the air via the fill tube. My wife doesn't bother topping it off. I take the time to do so since I always shop price really hard and want to get a full set of tanks.

Also, I have had one problem. The fuel pump developed a leak which was fixed by using Lock-tight.

In terms of distance per fill-up, I usually start shopping fuel after 1,000 miles. In terms of the install, I had it done at the manufacturer's site in Southern California so I cannot provide any constructive comments either way.

It's really nice to have the extra fuel. And, my primary reason in doing the 75 gallons was snow traction which has been just great.

Good luck!

I added Spool'd Up's vent kit and I get 39+ gallons in my 34 gallon tank! Weekend before last, on a trip from Livermore-San Diego-Livermore, I got 664 miles before filling up and the warning lamp wasn't on! Took 33. 8 gallons. The overhead calculator doesn't know about the extra 5 gallons and now reads 4. 2 mpg high, was showing almost 24 mpg. I got 19. 6 mpg on that trip, hand calculated. That said, I now have bed mounted spare tires (2) and am considering an auxilery tank to fill the space... I happen to have a 32 gallon IHC Scout tank that fits the space nicely, just have to remove the current spare apparatus. Let's see... 39 + 32 = 71 gallons... . hmmm, 1000 miles per fill up is pretty appealing!

we use the 100 gallon L shaped transfer tanks, mostly aluminum ones. you can get them fairly cheap from farm and ranch stores or from truck specialty dealers. gravity feed through a 2 micron filter to the main tank. if you pull a 5th wheel i can send you some pix if you pm me your email address

You may have options having a 4x4 long bed truck. I looked into this matter awhile back, I have a 2 wd short bed and at the time there was no option for my truck.

What I did was to add that fuel vent mod to my 34 gallon tank, now it holds 37. 5 gallons, and it is toped off on the second click. I get over 800 miles solo on a tank of fuel.

I purchased an 80 gallon a aluminium tank that mounts in the bed. I used a gravity feed to my oem tank so that I have about 114 gallon capcity. My capper has flip up side windows that allow me to fill the aux tank without crawling in the bed. My oem fuel gage stays on full until the aux tank is empty. When my fuel gauge starts to dip I know that I can start to look for a good price as I am down to about 30 gals. The install is simple with no problems in 3 years of use. The aux tank does have a shut off I can reach in the event that I would ever have a leak. I did seal the oem breather hose and added a breather hose to the aux tank that is terminated about a foot above the top of the aux tank. A check valve in the factory fill line finishes the install.

I made a top for the aux tank from some plywood so that it is now a rear shelve that is accessable from my pop up windows of the capper. It makes a nice place to throw a suitcase if you don't want to give up the space inside the cab.

I would recommend thia set up to anyone who can give up the storage space in the truck's bed.

Does the vent kit work on the 6. 7?

Newt

It should, the concept is that the stock plastic tank has a high spot built in on the top of tank. The fill and vent hoses that connect to the tank are lower than the high spot. What is done with this mod is to relocate the vent to the top of the tank where the high spot is.

Much quicker fillups, a true fillup, and 3. 5 gallons more fuel.

The 2 most useful things I have done to my truck: 1) Spooled up's vent kit mod to now pack in 40 gallons with a very fast fill rate. (sucked last summer when diesel was 5 bucks/gallon)

2) BD overdrive lockout... It works AWESOME and is like having a manual transmission.
