Odometer Fix?

Does installing larger injectors provide good power and milage gains if the rest of the truck is left stock? I have a buddy with a '95 with almost 200,000 mi with original injectors and with our first gen trucks this is the best thing to do and since he needs new injectors anyways I was wondering what the results would be. I know the cam plate is the best mod to make but I was just curious if the few extra dollars would be worth it or should a guy stay stock.

Thanks

If you are considering injectors anyway, bigger ones can improve mileage espeically if pump timing is optimized too. This has been thrashed on the forum several times; contact me offline if you want more details.

Not sure if it improved my mileage but it didnt hurt it at all. I installed my 370s before the plate and the only mileage loss was from having to much fun with the go pedal. If driven normally the mileage stayed the same as the old injectors.

mileage w/ injectors

Deezul 1,

How's your mileage been since the #11? I put mine in and got 2-3 mpg better, but I don't have the injector combo yet. This is why I'm asking about yours.

Also, about contacting Joe D. , can someone get me his contact info , maybe shoot me a email address or phone #?

TIA

What's the differences?

At the risk of looking really dumb, could someone please explain the differences in the injectors that I keep seeing on this site and the various vendor sites.

I mean, I realize that the 300hp injectors make less power than the 370hp injectors, but WHY do they make less power? Is it simply a larger orifice size in the 370's that allows them to flow more fuel? Or is it because they atomize the fuel better? Or is it a combination of both?

Does the installation of 300hp or 370hp injectors mean that a 215hp engine will now be able to make 300hp or 370hp with no other changes, or are there other modifications that need to be done to actually get to 300 / 370 hp?

And my last question, I've seen several vendors that sell 215 injectors that are only a little cheaper than 300's or 370's, and may actually be more expensive than injectors that they claim will add another 40 hp to a 215 hp engine. Why would a person buy the 215 injectors if they can get more power from injectors that cost less?

I'm a little confused by all of this. Can someone explain this to me?

Thanks in advance.

My mileage has not changed any from stock till now except when I am having fun with the go pedal, still gets 17. 5 town and 21-22 hiway

The 370 injectors are the biggest "bang" for the buck, but some trucks don't react real nice to them. Mainly the 94-95 auto trans trucks. You can put in the high flow delivery valves, but that is another $250. 00. The 215inj work well in the 94-95 trucks, but the true 215inj are almost twice the cost from Bosch as the 370's are. I don't know why the cost difference, maybe some deal Bosch had to make with DC to keep all the bean counters happy:rolleyes:

No. I put the 370's in, and Piers told me in my truck (215 hp) I'd see about 40-45HP. It feels like more, but I'd say that's about right. My engine is totally stock. Anything that you may have modified (cam plate etc)will change this substantially.

I may be wrong here, but I think I saw that the 300's give a pattern that's not optimum for our combustion chamber.

The 300 marines have a 155 degree spray angle, plus a droop in power output around 1900 rpm's. The 370's have a 145 degree spray angle, the correct one for our piston design.

Ok here is one fo you!

All of you are talking about 300's and 370's, who has tried DD2's or 3's with a 12V (Thanks for the site update Piers). Here is what my future thoughts are, Get the DTT update with a 91 and then go to a bigger plate that Piers recommends and step-up to a different Turbo(35) or maybe look at a 40, maybe then go to different Injectors. Sound off to you opinion(Piers I'm listening) I won't call just to B. S. but I will call when I'm ready to buy!

Jim

Ive got the dd3's and they are good quality injectors. The 370's make more overall power than the dd3's. About 10hp.

Less smoke with the dd3's. The 370's have the little fuel sack that runs a tad richer over the dd3's.

Personally, with the auto trucks the modified HX35 Piers builds should work well for you.

Piers is good about putting up with BS. I call him and bother him all the time.

I rarely buy a thing and he still takes my calls.

JFulmer,

Come on out to the Dyno event we are doing here in Dallas. Get a baseline of where you are now and just have a good time.

Piers

How about DDIIIs ??? Do they have the correct angle for a 97 Auto?

Darren

Not to steal the answer from Piers, but yes they do.

The dd3's are extrude honed 215 injectors.

The quality control at DD is so stringent that many brand new injectors during disassembly have parts that will not pass the DD QC and have to be replaced with other brand new parts that will.

They are the highest quality injectors a guy can get.

In my personal experience with them, I have no complaints.

DD3's are more money than 370 diamond injectors though.

Disassembly, extrude honing, and re-assembly cost money as well as the 215 injector initial costs is higher than the 370 diamonds.

Ditto on what Don said. The Diesel Dynamic's injectors are the best extrude honed injectors I've ever tested. Lawrence puts a lot of R&D into his products before they are put on the market.

Piers, thanks allot for the input as I know you are busy, it's like when Bill jumps on the board it means allot to us.

Don, I might, repeat might try and come down sometime but I doubt I will try to dyno, I figure the only way I can do it is lock the converter up and I don't think it will take it, it already slips a little but I just keep my foot out of it most of the time and drive it normal, now when I get the DTT stuff it it will be a different story as I will unlock it and let it go.

Thanks again guys, Jim

In response to the first post in this thread,

why, after only 200k mi, do you need new injectors??

just curious, is there something wrong with the stock injectors?
