Hi All,

I currently have 265x75r16 tires on my truck and I need to replace them. I would like to buy a slightly bigger tire - looking at the Durra Grappler 285x75rx16 or 305x70x16 - and I want to replace my spare as well. I need to make sure that the tire will fit under the bed because I can't afford to lose bed space to keep the fullsize spare.

Do any of you have 285x75 or 305x70 tires mounted on your spare rim under your truck?

Thanks
Mike

The 265/75R16 tire was the original on my truck and is still the unused spare. Here's the progression: fit just O.K. on original set up. After adding a Class V hitch, the space under there was further reduced causing the use of tire irons or crowbars to wrestle it up there. When I had a 4" exhaust pipe installed, the pipe is right up against the tire causing a real hassle getting the spare down. Luckily, only once in 165K miles have I had to lower the spare and get it on the truck because of a tread sep on 285/75R16 AT's. A buddie of mine put this together to solve the where to put the spare problem. jefe

I was able to fit a 305, with 4" exhaust, it's tight and the pipe is about 1/2" from the spare. A little finagling, no pry bars neede, and it cranks right up between the rails.

I have a 285/75R-16 under my truck and running a Farm Boy Performance 5 inch exhaust. It is a tight fit but it fits. The exhaust pipe is closer than I would like but the tire seems to tolerate it well. It has for almost 9 years.

Thanks all for the replies. I ended up buying (5) 285/75R-16Nitto Dura Grapplers and was able to get it to fit under the bed of my truck.
