Here is one for ya, I am a big wheeler myself but I use a highly modified Toyota. Was thinking the other day when this Ram of mine gets real old it just might turn into a mud truck for the deep bogs of WV. What are the biggest tires I can run on that AAM 9. 25 with a stock Cummins behind it and say 4. 56 gears and a locker in the front? Mind you it will not be a "street rig" and have to handle the occassional full throttle application. I do shy away from extreme abuse as you can break anything if you try. The AAM 11. 5 in the rear I am not worried about. I know I should have posted this in the off-road section but figured I would get more looks here... ... ... ... ... anyone have any first had experience with a lifted mud running 3rd GEN?
 
There is a guy running around my area with 38x15. 50s on a 2500 Quad cab 4x4, CTD, and the only problems I am aware of him having, is with his lift kit coming apart. -Nicholas
 
The axle is still a crappy unitized hub setup, so while it might do ok on some big meats, the hub bearing will wear out fast.



Just swap in a ford high pinion, kingpin Dana 60 like alot of the 2nd gen ram guys do on pavement sucks when your ready to make it an off road truck.
 
I run 37" goodyear muds and I have no problem going WOT in 4 wheel drive. The only problem I have had is the U joints cant handle the big meats for too long. Also the ball joints are crap. Waiting for Moog to make a replacement.

A good FF D-60 is rated for up to 44" tires. Granted the u-joints and ball joints are 'still in review' on these AAM axles BUT comparing size and axleshaft and ring/pinion strength I would think these axles can handle aoub the same as the Dana's. The 9. 25 front is comparable to a D-60, the 10. 5" rear a D-70, and the 11. 5" rear a D-80. So in stock configuration I;d figure you COULD run 44's... BUT I;d want to beef up the earlier mentioned parts to be sure I was not gonna break. (the D-70 and D-80 are both rated for up to 44" tires)
 
If we can get those Dynatrac units built for the front of our trucks then both front and rear axles will handle 44" tires. The 11. 5 rear will now.

Ahh... just buy one of dynatracs 'prorock 60's. That'll hold 44's!!

Ahh... just buy one of dynatracs 'prorock 60's. That'll hold 44's!! I believe dynatrac also makes FRONT application D-70 AND D-80's. A D-80 would be one heck of a front axle!
