Last few days my truck has been cranking slower and slower. I checked the batteries both are good (load tested), I knew my positive battery cables weren't the greatest, replaced them hoping it would correct the problem, it hasn't. Since it's slow cranking and not intermittent start I'm thinking the brushes are worn. has anyone put the brushes from Larry in? Is the soldering very tough (I've done quite a bit of soldering on circuit boards and such), can it be done with just a small soldering iron?

Well, pulled the starter off today, contacts were definitely burned (cleaned them hoping I could wait for new contacts). Then, pulled the cover off the brush plate. 1 brush just about gone. I had talked to the guy at Larry's on Thursday, sounds like just throwing in brushes doesn't always work, it's best to re-surface the armature to give it a nice new smooth surface for the brushes, not to mention checking all the bearings for the armature and such. So, I had to get a re-man from Bumper to Bumper. I would have liked to buy a new one from Larry's but couldn't really wait for it to get here, hopefully this one lasts a few years, it only has a 90-day warranty. Anyway, truck turns over like it should now.
