Yep... . I'm down to the last 9 quarts of the 2, five gal. buckets I bought when I heard about the new CJ oil coming out.

Don't know which direction after this change, in fact I'm concerned about the 2 qts I need to add to make 11 quarts. I have some 10 w 30 Rotella semi-syn. that I use in my late model tractor. Anyone think this could be added to the CI 4+ OK?

Chevron may still sell the Delo 400 15-40 CI4+ in 5 gal pales, so call a Chevron distributor. My NAPA store stocks it. We are in farm country.

Chris

i had seen something about marine oil not having to change to the new cj oil..... i have been running the new stuff and did not even know anything about it. all seems to be well but i know only time will tell. i am thinking about going to amsoil and changing it when they say too.

Glad Amsoil still makes it, I know it's spendy but leaving it in 15,000 miles helps. Just bought 5 gallons to make sure I'm good to go for a long time.

CAT DEO 15w-40, Mobil Delvac MX 15W-40, Amsoil 15w-40 Marine are just about the last of the CI-4 oils that are available :{

BTW... You can mix in some CJ-4 to make up what's needed, but it reduces the overall protection of the good stuff!!

Chevron Delo 400 15W40 is still available in CI-4+. Call your local distributor. It will not be avaialble in 1 gallon jugs, just 5 gallon pails, drums, and of course, bulk.

Unless it is not a flavor that you like.

Our local Cummins distributor still carries Valvoline Premium Blue Classic in 5 gal pails. I believe NAPA will order it for you. Forget overpaying for Amzoil. Cummins has it on sale once in a while.

Today I found CI-4 available at a Agco (massy ferguson) tractor dealer. I bought enough for the 2 quarts I need plus enough for my old tractor (31 yrs. old )

It's not CI-4 plus, but I think it work fine..... :):):)

I have two 5 gallon buckets of Kendall Super D3 CL4+ oil that I would like to sell. It's too bad you aren't closer to West GA.

You can still get the CAT classic oil at the earthmoving parts counter. If you go to a truck shop, they will tell you it's no longer available.

Someone near you should be glad to find your treasure... ... .....

Is that at the Caterpillar place over there off I-20 at the Six Flags exit?

Yes. You can buy CAT "classic" CL4+ oil at Yancey Brothers earthmoving parts counter which is at 330 Lee Industrial Blvd. If you go to Yancey Power Systems (across the street) they will tell you it is no longer available and try to sell you the CJ oil.

I live 32 miles from there, so if you want, you can come buy what I have.

OK, can someone get me up to speed on the "CI-4" engine oil thing"

Something happen when the DPF safe oils came out?

There's a brief writeup in TDR 68, page 106 (and another writeup in TDR 58, p54). Basically CI-4 oil is(was) cheaper and better (higher temp performance, higher detergency and longer drain intervals).

Well, since I still do my services at 3k - 4k miles, mostly city, some highway unloaded, I should be good.

Thanks for the summary Road Dog.

I used Rotella CJ dino in my 03 for over 300k miles with oil changes at 12k miles. Oil samples were all good and indicated I could go further between changes. Sold the truck with 531k miles on it and it was still running great. I wouldn't be too worried about the CJ oils.
