I'm decided on a 98 3500 12 valve with NV7100 pump and automatic. I'm using it for everday driving, pulling a trailer with one horse or two Harleys, while carrying a Lance 900 slide-in that weighs about 3000 to 3300 lbs. I want a reasonable amount of power, so as not to be embarrassed by 1st gens and Fords. I want great fuel economy, reliability and longevity. I rarely do anything but flatland driving, but emergency stops are commonplace down here. What do suggest in the way of modifications and equipment?

I'll give you my suggestions:

215HP injectors, precision timing (pump timed on test stand, and the TDC pin located precisely), free flowing exhaust. I'd also suggest a BD torque convertor and valve body. Between those, you will have a moderate power increase, and you'll have the ability to install torque plates or slide yours forward if you wish and still have the power handling capacity.

Thanks PW!

Get your boost and pyro gages. And as PW has said a free flowing 4" exhaust system with the pump precision timed (I'd go for a good 15/15. 5 degrees) You can later step up to a more aggressive fuel plate, and 300 or 370 injectors. a K&N filter properly installed is a plus.
BD, Bill Kondolay, or JRE will certainly help with the automatic trans components.

98 2500 4x4 QC auto "one of the last 12 valvers- late Dec 1997" 305 70 16, K&N ,260/608 torque plate,EGT and Boost gauge under ashtray. Dog lover who hates cats so its gone too. Ring removed- Whats next folks????

RedNut,
I, with over 500hp, still get 18-20mpg with the truck. The mileage only got better with adding on the higher pressure injection nozzles and putting the injection timing at a higher rate of advance.
