My friend has a 2000 Dodge Durango thats on its second transmission, and that one's shot. He doesn't want to rebuild the one that's in the truck for a second time because he thinks there's something wrong inside his unit that the rebuilder isn't picking up on. The truck only has around 80,000 miles. I know it's not a CTD, but does anyone have any similar experiences with the Durango transmission, and if so, what's the fix?

Our '01 durango has had the transmission replaced one already, and 2 rear end rebuilds. The dealer has done all 3 repairs - all within the first 36,000 miles. Don't think the transmission/rears can handle the 5. 9 rt motor.

Is yours the 5. 9?

My brother has a '00 durango 4x4 with the 5. 9, 110,000 and the only drivetrain problem so far is the trans heating when towing, its got all the factory HD towing stuff but trans instantly overheats as soon as it drops out of third gear :( over heating in first and second but not third seems very strange to me, any hill he cant pull in third he ends up pulling with the transfer case in low range :(
