I know, I know. There's no EZ diagnosis for this little problem but I thought I would throw out the question and see if there are any out there that care to share an opinion.

In the last 5000 miles I've developed a late 3~4 shift. No other symptoms. It's worse when cold. Best results are obtained by backing off the go peddle to let the thing shift. It has clean ATF, changed every 20,000 miles with the filter, and hasn't been abused in its 88,000 miles. I tow 7000lbs (over-drive OFF) on the weekends but the trans has NEVER been overheated. My SIG has the particulars on my truck.

Thanks in advance to those that care to share. I would purchase a quality, built trans if I didn't have the shorts right now. Heck, I still might have to and I have always wanted a quality (Goerends/DTT/etc. ) trans anyway.

Part throttle... . standard from stoplight or EZ merge on freeway ramp. Shift is delayed until about 2300-2500RPM on 3~4 shift. When engaged the overdrive works normally. Everything is normal except the 3~4.

Did you recently get new tires?

I did. I went from the stock BFGs to Bridgestone Dueller Revos (same size as stock) and noticed what you describe.

It used to shift into OD @ 45mph. With the new tires, its @ 50mph because they have more rolling resistance and require more power from the engine/transmission.

Mine is just starting to do this, although not bad, very slight hesitation, I do notice it.

There are some things to try but the more experienced guys can correct me if I am wrong here;

Clean all the grounds, esp. the battery posts

Reset the throttle position sensor (APPS)

Get the DTT transmission electrical interference /noise arrester

Make sure the Alternator main charge cable is tight to the Alt.

Sometimes wrapping the charge wire with aluminum foil helps stop the interference.

Getting rid of the factory connector on the wire coming off the neg passenger side battery by stripping and soldering together with adhesive shrink tube has helped some.

Transmission speed sensor might need replacement.

This all I can think of for now... .

Although some guys reported new batteries solved the problem too.

I did change my tires to 265's from 245's but the only thing that did was mess with my speedo, odometer, and anti-lock brakes.

I've already reworked my grounds, DTT noise filter, foil wrapped wire, & new batteries as I was having the typical problem going in and out of OD. That problem has been fixed.

I know of the cold temp. self protecting feature of this trans. and am used to that. The thing just "hangs" on the 3~4. I can live with it this way. I just don't want to. Eventually I'll need that VISA card for a quality rebuild from DTT or one of his competitors but would like to squeeze out as many miles as I can from the old slushbox as money is tight.

Thanks all for you suggestions gents.
