Cheap Brand New Cummins.....

Fox skiploader?

It was interesting that Bruce Armstrong, on page 52, 600 Degrees, stated that he had found keeping the truck's EGT to 600 degrees ( as old Clessey had determined) gave him the best mileage. That is about 55 MPH with his 6 speed HO - and yielded 17. 4 MPG which Bruce was essentially orgasmic about..... Now I have experimented - just recently - and my 01, traveling 55 MPH I will guarantee that I can get 21+ EVERYTIME! And I have a Big Buckstop up front - not aero at all , and weigh 7950 with me and all the crap I have on board... . Also at 55 MPH - on level ground - I run 425 degrees.....

My 2005 is at 600 degrees at 45 MPH, 55 it is higher, how in the world do you get down to 425 degrees at 55 MPH?

I am installing a AFE Stage 2 on Friday and hope this helps me some. I had the MBRP replacement muffler installed today.

I had never really

looked very well at the EGR Temp at very low speeds for any distance - so yesterday when I was coming home - on level ground - no wind etc - that's what I got for a mile - but even a hint of a grade - and up she went... ... I'll keep watching this and see if it was an anomoly..... and my 2nd gen is a diffferent animal - for example no Kitty which I'm sure causes your to be higher...

My cat could very well be a factor in the higher temps, that and the fact that the 04. 5 and up trucks are known to run hotter anyway.

But I would love to get the temps down a little more, not that it has been a problem, I just feel better when the temps are lower.

I will have to do a few runs and checks on mine again after I get the AFE Stage 2 system in it.

I think the 12 valves run cooler. I seldom see 800° on mine. Mostly run 500° to 700 or so. Up hill raise it some or if I stand on it. THAT kicks the EGT up pretty good. On long down hills I have seen it drop below 300°. Of course, my cat is leaning against the wall in my basement.

flat ground on cruise at 2200 rpm (should be 70mph with 235/85/16s) i am around 650 maybe a tad higher with a gutted kitty and 4. 10s

Mileage

Sorry for the earlier silliness.

I drive my 05 the same way. I try to stay below 600-700 degrees. My highway mileage has been right at 20 mpg on longer runs around 18 mpg combined with city stop and go. On the highway I try to stay near 60 mph but often wind up at 65 due to traffic. My 94 has been consistently above 21 mpg under the above conditions.

My original temp was wrong....

I thought the section I was driving on was level - it apparentl has a slight doengrade so my numbers were wrong. Trying to stay on 55 on level ground I find that the temps are under 600 - but not by much... . 550 at the best... .

The only bad thing about doing 55 anywhere in So. Calif. is that the other idiots on the road will try to run over you because they want to do 70+.

Iv noticed that when Im doing 65 the EGT shows around 650. Slight grade and it goes up to 700 or so. Just my 2 cents

I have no idea what my EGT's are, I don't have a gauge. If I run 55MPH and feather the throttle up to 55 and shift at 1500-1600 RPM's with intermittent stops every 30 miles I can get upwards of 22 MPG on my 2005. It's really hard driving that way though.

If I drive 65-68 MPH My fuel mileage drops to 18 MPG highway and city driving combined.

So if what your saying about EGT temps I should be around 600 according to my MPG and that's where I'am at.

I drive a 2003 6-speed 3/4 ton 4X4 Quad. I recently drove on a long trip, and purposely kept the RPM at or below 2000 RPM. 2000 RPM put me at about 72 MPH as I have the 285 tires. My MPG (Hand calculated) was 20. 2 MPG. I never monitored the EGT.
