just got a 92 W350 CC 4x4. factory 6'' rear blocks. TSB says a 1'' shim at the carrier bearing will cure the hard acceleration shudder.
did not cure mine.
I tried 1/2'' shim... . no change. went to 3/4'' shim & tried tighter transfer case isolators (ground the center stop 1/4'')... that helped a little, but it still shuddered. So now I'm laying under the truck wondering which U joint I'm going to disassemble & inspect first, & I happen to note the rear shaft seams to be running at a slight angle towards the drivers side. I then checked to see if the carrier had been improperly installed. nope... only 1 set of holes & the bracket is plainly marked "FRONT".
so now I'm thinking "is my truck is bent!"
but no, this is one of the cleanest 92's around. so I drill 4 new holes in the carrier bracket & move it a little over 1'' towards the passenger side. reinstalled the carrier with 3/4'' shims.
NO MORE SHUDDER!Oo.
