I drove a friend of mines 08 for the day pulling a 24 gooseneck trailer. It seamed very lazy down low. It is a 3500 quad cab dually 4wd with a 6 speed manual and 3. 42 gears. Coming from a 06 5. 9 48re 3. 73 i was expecting more. I think my truck would get the load moving quicker. His truck runs fine, it has pulled a car hauler for the last year putting on 105,000 in a year. He bought the truck with 43,000 on it and in a year it has almost 150,000. He has had no problems at all with it. Just curious if it is the difference of an auto to a manual? Years ago I drove a 5. 9 with a 6 speed manual and I don't remember it being doggy. Thoughts?

Yes its slower than an auto because of the manual action I suppose. Have been rowing for 2 years now so I don't remember much the auto trans feel.

I don't own one, but this seems to be a common complaint about manual trans 6. 7s not being very peppy. I bet it has as much to do with the emissions compliant engine programming as anything else. After all, 350/610 is still pretty stout.

I experienced a similar thing with my first Dodge-Cummins, an '01 HO/six speed. I ordered it with the 3. 54 differential gears because I only towed an 8,500 lb. Airstream. It did a great job with the AS.

A few years later when I sold the Airstream and bought a used Travel Supreme fiver weighing 14k lbs. I had second thoughts about the 3. 54 gears. Differential gearing makes a big difference when starting the load and accelerating.

I second Harvey's statement. My truck had 4. 10's when I got it, pulled like a monster, like the trailer wasn't there. Would break traction starting out if I stepped on it to hard. Dodge recalled the truck and put in 3. 73's since the 4. 10 was not supposed to be in there to begin with. The difference is very noticeable with a trailer but the lower rpm on the highway(where I tow most often anyway) was a great trade off.
