Gotta love buying used vehicles. I got my 1993 truck home. I knew it had a seat issue. I now know, its needing help very soon!

I have the ext. cab with the reclining seats. The recline mecahnism is not locking on the pasenger side and the driver seat has been drilled and screwed in postion. Not only is this unsafe, but it's a little uncomfortable.

My question: where do you get seats, or mechanisms to fix these. I need to do the driver seat VERY soon. I hate to replace the whole seat because there in pretty decent shape upholstery wise.

i know it will suck but i had to take my seats all the way apart and i found bolts falling out and that was why the locking mechanism wasn't working. I had to completely strip down both seats to find what was wrong with them.

seats

My 93 got so uncomfortable that I was ready to trash the seats anyway but I had similar problems with the mechanism. You may find that the teeth are stripped and there are no replacement parts for that problem. (Actually I have not tried to buy replacment parts but I am sure without asking, the Dodge price would be prohibitive. ) Several owners have updated to second gen seats. That seems to be the best plan. I found some dodge van seats at the local salvage that were in pretty good shape and installed those. I raised the height a bit and found that to be (for me) desirable as well. This was not just a bolt in exchange nor is the second gen option. As they say, 'some assembly required'. The van seats were better quality than the truck seats. If you have over two hundred thousand on the truck, and with the twelve years of ageing, you likely won't revive the original seats. The foam hardens to the general condition of concrete. The seats from a Ramcharger are the same and will 'bolt in'. But finding one that is fit to use may be difficult.

If all you need is the latch mechanism, that might be found on an otherwise unusable seat from any of the first gen trucks or Ramcharger (buckets of course). It is a bolt on part that may fix your problem.

On mine the hinge for the flip-up part was cracked. This caused the seat to be very hard to latch in AND it made this constant horrible high pitched squeek when going down the road. I replaced the hinge with some piano hinge stock I got from Mc Master-Carr ( http://www.mcmaster.com ). Worked great!
