leaking battery

Got my truck in mid December, now has 17,000 on it. Passenger side battery has been leaking for some time, but I am reluctant to take it to the dealer. Does anyone Know if they will even replace it under warranty, or should I just not bother with them. Thanks,

I believe they will pro-rate it on 36 months. On my 97 one battery died after 2 years and they were going to pay a third. The battery cost more than it should have, so I bought 2 new die hards with more cranking amps. I would not pay anything to replace with a battery brand that had given me problems.

I'm not sure about Dodge but on most good batteries they will replace it free the first 12 months then prorate it thereafter.

You definitely want to replace it soon or you may have rust showing in the engine compartment. My right one was leaking and the dealer replaced it, no problem.

Alright guys, I just spoke with the local dealer and they are ready for me to take the truck in to have the batt replaced free of charge. Do you think if I were to have any performance upgrades, ie. a VA that I would need to worry about removing it. If I were to have one, it sure woud be depressing to drive the truck without it, even to the dealer. Any ideas.

cjohnson,The only upgrades you may want to remove are the two 250 lb antiwheelie weights on top of your batteries. DC has determined that wheelie weights installed in such manner can cause battery pancakeing and horizonal cracking. Depending on the conductivity of the wheelie weight material,DC at its'discretion,may also void warrenty on fuses 7-12 of the under dash fuse block. It's important not to lose the warrenty on fuse#11,so you'd better forklift those chunks of lead off your batteries before going to the dealer. IMHO $. 02worth

get rid of those factory batteries. Dodge can make trucks, but they suffer a bit in the battery department. My brother's '98 Dakota killed a battery in just a few months. He said that several other people he knows with Dodge trucks experienced the same thing. Get an Optima! Sure they cost a bit more, but you can't find a better battery. If you are going to BOMB you might as well do your batteries too #ad

Well, I took the truck in and they replaced the battery at no charge. I certainly would like a pair of Optima's, just want to get all I can out of the stockers first. Thanks guys.
