I changed the oil and noticed that it was leaking from the drain plug at 40 ft lbs so I thought maybe it was the stock plug... I ordered the new one from geno's with the new gasket and it's still leaking at 40 ft-lbs. Any advice?
really? I would've assumed the one geno's sent me would've been the newest one but even if it wasn't, I would've thought the new one wouldn't leak either way. I guess I'll try that too... .
You didn't say which drain plug you got from Geno's garage. I'm assuming it is the heavy duty one. What I have found is the old drain plug deformed the pan and the new one will leak at 40 ft lbs. . Need to overtighten till quits leaking. The new plug will help straighten pan and will not leak later. have done this to about 1/2 dozen trucks instead of replacing oil pan.
Rather than risk over torqueing and possible increased damage to the pan you might want to try the Fumimoto drain valve. It has a slightly larger flange and once it is on and sealed, you will never need to remove it.
