I just had a major transmission overhaul at 22k and after getting the truck back I spent some time on my back underneath it looking around. I noticed an oil spray patttern soming from the connection between the back of the Transfer case and the rear driveshaft. Would this be coming from the seal on the case or is it possibly just extra lube from reassembly? It looks like a problem to me.

It could be reassembly stains or it could be a leak, most

people wouldn't know with out looking at it.

Now for the real question, why did you need/have a transmission

rebuild at 22k miles?

When the driveshaft is pulled from the transfer case, which they would have to do to pull the transmission, it will leak for sure because the driveshaft is what provides the sealing surface against the seal. It could just be some residual oil that got down inside the seal faces from the rebuild. I would clean it up really good, then drive it a little and check for any new leakage. It's pretty easy to damage a seal pulling the driveshaft in and out.

I was planning to power wsh the entire undercairiage to help moitor any new leaks and specifically to keep an eye on this one. I guess it would be too much to ask that this would have left the dealer clean on whatever mess they made.

I was complaining about rough shifts into overdrive in particular as well as some vibrations in od under load. I suspect I did some damage to my transmission and probably cooked the fluid rocking it to death when I got stuck in the woods last winter. I had my two year old with me and was pretty determined to get unstuck. After much redline wheel spinning and aggressive F-R switching I did get out. Not sure if or how much damage that actually caused.

I had the same problem. Turns out there is a plug in the output shaft. Mine was ******* oil out when I drove. Fixed under warranty, need new output shaft.
