Hello Guys!

My front seal is leaking badly. I would like to know what parts I need to make this repair. Does Cummins have a sleeve to cover the groove in the shaft?

Thank!

What year is it? If it is a 12 valve, have you done the KDP? If not, now is a good time as you have to pull off the cover to get to the KDP. Replacing the C/S seal is easier when the cover is off the engine and sitting on a bench in front of you. :)

Crabman!

I left off some important info. The truck is a 1994 3500.

I have not fixed the KDP.

The return line is failing and makes for a fun start in the morning.

With 192,000 miles I still want to bomb the engine but never have done any thing except a 4" exhaust pipe.

Thanks for your help.

You might not need a sleeve for the front of the crankshaft. The front seal kit(for my '97, the Cummins P/N is 3804899) comes with a seal installer to press in the seal. I checked the location of the stock seal in the front cover before I removed it. On my truck, when I used the seal installer supplied with the kit, the seal ended up being farther in the cover, so now it's riding on the crankshaft in a different location. . Maybe they did this on purpose to provide a virgin surface for the new seal to ride on. I agree with everyone else. While you're going through the work to change the front seal, tab the dowel pin and check the other bolts inside the front cover.
