Hi guys I am new to the forum ) I have a 1995 Ram 35000 4X4 Cummins with 230K miles I have been smelling diesel for a few months but couldnt see any leaks. Yesterday I noticed fuel leaking from inder the truck so I opened the hood and saw fuel kind of splashing on the firewall right behind the head. I reached back there and couldnt find the source. If anyone caould tell me what this could be, if it is a common problem and mostly what the fix is for it.

THANKS

sounds like your fuel return line may be leaking. there is a line that loops through each injector and then passes over the back of the engine and tee's into the return line fromt he fuel pump to return the fuel to the tank. you may have a cracked line on that track somewhere.

You may also want to check the fuel lines that come up from the frame rail. Some times the lines can rub on something else and get holes in them.

The input to the fuel filter is a double banjo fitting. It's located on the top of the fuel filter bracket on the back part. The top banjo is from the fuel manifold that returns fuel from injectors. The bottom banjo is from the lift pump. I had to replace the washers in mine.

I foud the problem, It was the fuel line that comes from teh fram rail to under the intake manifold. It looks like someone had replaced it before with a crappy piece of fuel line. I went to boat repair place and got a chunk of marine fuel line and replaced the line. I took off the fuel filter, three vaccum hoses, a relay pack and dip stick tube to get to the hose eaiser. The old fuel line was cracked allover!

RHerrera, that's your fuel return line. Glad you got it figured out :)

Just a note about diesels, if you ever have a fuel leak around your injector lines or injectors, never put your hand around it or touch it with the engine running. You could run the risk of having fuel injected under your skin, which can be dangerous and deadly.
