Another SRW bites the dust.

oh boy what a weekend!. i like to share an experience i had this weekend.

i was coming home from a camp trip 200 hundred miles away from home. and

i was driving on the freeway when some lady next to me pointed to my tire saying something. so i thought i got a flat tire, and i pulled over asap and as soon as i did the truck died, thank god i got to pull over to a safe area. anyway i got out of the truck and the leftside front tire was gushing with fuel, also the whole truck was full of fuel dripping everywhere. i had to tow the truck home and the trailer, it cost me 950. 00 dlls ,,,, a good thing i got home safe. here is my question, next day i took the truck to dealer and said the fouth injector fuel line tube was leaking so it lost pressure. they said i had to replace it, couldnt they have just tighten the fitting of the fuel line tube to stop it from leaking. ? or did i really have to replace it. i am thinking they just took me for my money __any input i would really appreciated. :{:

You will probably receive much more helpful information if you post this in the proper forum and identify what year your truck is.

I am going to assume you have a third gen common rail..... #4 injector line is notorious for breaking/cracking. They are a $20. 00 item at Cummins, many of us carry a spare on board.

Now would be a good time to consider a good emergency roadside assistance company, one that will cover you if hooked to a trailer.

I paid $47 for my replacement and believe the regular price is about $60 and another $90 for labor if you're getting them to do it. The parts guy said that number 4 is always the one that cracks. I found that the clamp that is secured to the middle of the tube had worked loose. I believe that the sharp bends in this one tube put a much greater strain on this particular tube. In the future, I am going to regularly check that clamp and assure it remains tight. I had 60,000 miles on my 04. 5 when the tube cracked.
