Im getting ready to take my 97 dodge on vacation. I topped it off with diesel and had it sitting in my inclined driveway facing uphill. Today I noticed diesel dripping from the middle of the fuel tank. I took it down to the dodge dealership and had it inspected and they said the gasket was leaking at the fuel sending unit and it would cost $250. 00 to have fixed. They would have to order the part and it wouldnt be in until the end of the week. Im leaving for vacation tomorrow and have to tow my wakeboard boat. After looking on TDR search under the sending unit I noticed a lot of threads about tightening the plastic ring around the sending unit. I took a hammer and flat bar and tightened it snug which was about a quarter turn. Now I dont notice any diesel leaking. Do you think I still need to replace the sending unit or am I safe with what Ive done? Your feedback please?

Had the same problem with a 99 when it was nearly new, tightened it with a hammer and an ax handle, drove it 120,000 mile with no further leaks. bg
