I appear to be leaking fuel from what I a guess is my fuelpump. It is a black box above my power steering pump with fuel lines going into it. It is a hard area to see but it appears to be leaking from a hole on the bottom. Is this hole suppost to be plugged? is it a drain of some kind?

there is a little cover with an oring under it that can fail, its on the lower engine side of your injection pump, I have not heard of it being replaceable on the truck... . meaning if thats whats leaking the pump has to be removed...

Having just replaced mine, I can tell you there is no way to get to it with the pump on the engine. When I went to take the cover off, one of the bolts was loose. The o-ring also had almost a full twist in it. This was a disaster waiting to happen.

BTW, if your going to take the pump off, it would be an excellent time to replace the other potential leak - the throttle shaft seal. I replaced the brass throttle shaft bushing with the new steel one (sorry don't have the part number handy). I also replaced the o-ring on teh throttle shaft itself. Mine was leaking pretty bad. No more leak after reassembly.

You know, wouldn't it be nice if they had thought of this thing... I mean, you could loosen the pump bolts and the lines, rotate the pump down till the cover was clear and replace/fix it..... mannnn we gotta build our own engine and pump stuff..... :D:D

While I'm at it, we could make it so that if you had trouble getting enough advance you rotate the thing and come at it from the retarded side... ... hmmmmmmm... ... . never mind... ;)

MRuskow-

I think I know what you are talking about. Guy who bought my 93 W350 (gonna have to kick his a$$ for not joining up yet) had the same problem in his pump, and it lasted 8K before it finally bit the dust. There is a little screw with a T27 or T25 Torx head that screws in kind of on the bottom- real hard to get to, esp if you have big hands. MY recommendation would be to spray everything off with brake cleaner, wipe it all down, esp in the little cracks and crevices, and put a few drops of LocTite on the threads of the bolt, and screw it in as far as it will go. Dont get carried away with the torque, but get it snug.

To the rest of you, it is kind of around the bottom from the pump lock bolt, and back a little, but not as far around as the hidden timing nut.

I went down and had a peek at the area you mentioned Daniel... . it looks to be a 'blind' hole.

There are three in total and they look like a mounting hole for something, but no sign of any openings...

Mind you, I'm blind in one eye and can't see outta the other one...

It's most common for that rear plate to leak and make it appear to be a different source... did that make sense???

Aw crap, I gotta expalin further. When are you guys gonna learn to read minds?

Anyway, MRuskow, look down the head/engine- facing side of the pump, and see if you see any fuel coming down that side. THe good Pastor ois right, the diamond shaped doo hickie can leak down and appear to be coming from somewhere else.
