Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) leaking head gasket

I have a late 1998 dodge 24 valve 5 speed 4x4 with 304,000 miles on it. It still runs strong. It leaks about a gallon a week (appox. 600 miles). Do you think it is a good idea to replace the head gasket and or a valve job to an engine with this many miles on it. Will this just create new issuses? looking for some input,
