I have moisture around the #5 injector. The truck starts fine and runs smooth. I do have a ticking sound somewhere around there though. I got 23 mpg on a 330 mile trip last week (between 68-73 mph. With that mileage, and running fine should I leave it alone?
Loosen and re-torque the injector line nut to 22 ft. lbs. I use a 3/4" Crows foot. Make sure the leak is not coming from the fuel drainback manifold on the Injector. The small leak could be the cause of the knock/Tick.
From Dieselburner:
... . "I had a knock in my engine that was driving me crazy until I found the problem. It turned out that one of my injectors had a very slight weep and was causing the knock at low speed and idle. After tightening the knock was gone. Use a 15/16" crows foot wrench".
Thanks illflem, I tried to tighten the nut but it seemed tight. Since it's toward the back you can't see very well and I wasn't sure if the wrench was hitting the manifold though. I sprayed some soapwater around the injector and it didn't bubble or anything. Maybe its leaking from the valve cover; they are brand new though. It was moist even before I did the valve adjustment. I was hoping that is all it was but I don't know. If I had a good dealer I would just take it there for a looksi but they stink. We have a cummins dealer in a semi dealership down the street but they "won't touch that small stuff"
