I bought a cheap ($250+free shipping) set of new 215 injectors from an eBay seller and it looks like it was a mistake. He says they are new Bosch tips installed on new German bodies, whatever German bodies are. They have only one set of numbers on them unlike my originals that have a lot of numbers stamped here and there on the bodies. The first thing I noticed was that they didn't idle as smooth as my originals with 388k miles on them but they did run a LOT better out on the road. I have more power and less smoke. Interesting that they are running much smoother at idle now. Here is the add.

Okay, the problem is that two of them are leaking where the tips thread on. #4 and #6 with #4 being the worst. Just driving around town not putting on many miles it's run down enough to hit the block. The fuel is coming up around the nuts and pushing the rubber o-rings out a little on one side.

I contacted the seller and as I figured I got no response. Does anyone know if this can be fixed by simply removing and tightening the tips or am I doomed? I know, I should have just saved my pennies and got a high dollar set from PDR or anyone reputable. Is there a torque spec on these tips?

Thanks,

Mark

Some injectors have the stupid tendancy to leak. We had problems getting the return line to seal. I'd say tighten them down a little more. They gotta be tight... really tight sometimes. For our return line leak, we got several quart of high mileage ATF with seal conditioner and run it in the fuel. After a while it stopped leaking.

ATF with "seal conditioner" in the fuel?

If they are leaking where they screw together, pull them and try tightening them a little. I'd clean them with brake cleaner and air to make sure first. The other option is pull them and take them to a pump shop and have them checked and/or tightened.

I have no external leaks. The pressure lines and the return lines do not leak. Everything was dry for the first while until the bores filled with fuel and began pushing out around the hold-down nut o-rings. This tells me it has to be coming from the joint between the body and tip. I guess I will pull them and try tightening first and see if that does it and if not see if a pump shop can fix them.

Thanks for the help guys. I had thought about tightening them but have never worked on injectors before and wasn't sure how precise the torque had to be on the tips. I did take one of my old ones apart though just to see what things looked like in there. It's just to metal surfaces so I guess it needs to be pretty tight to not leak.

I bought a set from Ebay before for one of my tractors. One of them leaked where the bodies screwed together. Someone must of had it apart before and screwed up the pins on the little spacer between the body and the tip which would not let the bodies screw all the way together. I carefully reshaped the pins and it has worked fine since. . I would have them taken apart and checked. . Good luck, Marc
