I backed my '01 2500 up a pretty steep hill(about 50 deg), and i lost about 4 qts of oil, and i'm not real sure where it came out. Has anyone ran into this problem??? Does anyone know where the oil might have came out???

Likely from the crank case breather at the front of the engine. Have heard of this before.

Its the black hose that loops up and then down, usually terminating at a black catch bottle on the front of the engine. Should be pretty obvious if that is were it came from.

There have been articles in TDR and also a TSB about this in the past. Only cure is a breather system like Fleetgaurd envirogaurd or Walker Air Sep, if you routinely drive on steep inclines. Alot of power companies out west ran/run into the problem on their easments in the mountains.

As far as I know it does not do anything other than puke out the oil (no other damage) unless you of course run dry. There should be info here on the forum that you could find.

Hope this helps,

I THINK i HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I didnt lose as much as fast, but the underside of the motor is caked with oil. Whenever I finally found the bottle it was off the end of the hose!

Anyway, got any tips to clean the motor/underside of whole front end? It is seriously bad and ugly guys. I'd almost be willing to submerge in the lake if I thought it would work.

Get a spray can of engine cleaner, take truck to the coin spray off car wash, spray the under side down real good where it is oily, let sit for a while and then spray off. I do the under side at the carwash as it causes a mess that I donw want in my drive. Do NOT do the topside of the engine with the high pressure though as you can push water past the seals/gaskets etc.

Altittle oily discharge from the breather is OK and normal as that is its job to vent the crank case. it does make a mess, which is why I extended my breather tube down like two feet to discharge at about my axle, no more mess.

hope this helps

I think Ive seen a tsb on that for driving over some many degrees, and I think you were well past that. There is a fix for that in case you make that little trip often.
