This is getting nuts:eek:
Dodge pump # 1 got trashed when box failed about 35k
Flused all 3 times and did box and autozone pump.
Auto zone pump failed about 3k later 3 months
Then 2nd autozone pump failed about 5k later 4 months
Now its leaking again 5k later and about 3 months#@$%!
All 3 autozone pumps leaked at the front end where the pulley is?
I never pounded or abused the pumps and always pressed the pulley back on with the internal threads in the shaft like the book says.
Just ordered a new one from dodge 250. 00:{
Note to self Auto zone pumps suck:eek:

Years ago, we used to do business with a company that provided water pumps to suppliers... While I was in one of these plants in PA I noticed that this rebuilder had 3 lines running... . One line was all new product, the second line was using the old castings, (cover and impeller) with new bearings and seals... the third line was like line 2 except it reused the complete pump with just a new seal... .

For the life of me I couldn't understand why a customer (large parts chain) would want a water pump like what was built on line 3... and I was told price...

In looking at the boxes there was no label to let the buyer know which rebuilt pump had the used bearing in it... . but some of their customers bought the pumps from line 3... . other wise there would be no market for it... .

We build HD clutches and have always used new bearings in the covers... . the OE (Eaton, Spicer) re-uses this bearing and in some of their other products they re-use bearings... some of the other rebuilders I compete with in the Clutch market as well as the Air Compressor market re-use bearings... We don't...

I can't speak for the re-builder of your product, or if its new, how they screwed up... other than to say if you had too much belt tension you of course have short life bearing and front seal. . I don't have a clue who autozone uses for their products but they do have the clout to set the standards (cost/quality).

I know this is no answer, but a thought of how the process can work... .

Got it off in 20 min:D

I'm getting good at this.

There was a ton of in and out play on the input shaft about 1/4 ".

Bearings must be toast.

Hope the mopar one lasts for a year or 2.

Got the mopar pump today.

Its a completely updated pump,pulley,tank.

Looks nothing like the original or the recons from autozone.

Went in easy about 25 min and works great with no leaks.
