Well, when I hop in the truck to fire it up it doesn't. So I pop the hood, reach in and push the fuel shutoff selenoid into the run position. What part needs fixed since I have to do this? I read a post about wiring it in place. How does that work? (should probably post that question over there) The next thing is the FSS is covered in oil. I presume it is leaking out of the P7100. What type of oil goes into the pump and how much. It seems to be tapping more so I think it might be getting low on oil. I need to clean it up before I see where the oil is leaking from. Any commor leak places? Thanks for the help. Oh, the truck is the 95.

Hi Bloomy,

To tie up the solinoid you run a piece of wire under the lever that attaches to the bottom of the pump from the solinoid, then pull up on the wire until the lever will not move any further, tie the wire off to the air ram. To shut down the engine you will have to disconect the wire. I would check the wiring plugin contacts. As to the oil leaks wash down the area that is covered in oil then start the engine and see if you can see where the engine is leaking. The oil for the Fuel pump is just engine oil ther is a ten mm hex fill plug on top of the fuel pump govenor the pump takes 25ounces of oil when dry. PS as Joe G said in the other thread a lot of people replace the shut down solinoid with a pull cable.

The pump is lubed with the engine oiling system. There is a small oil line running from the engine block to the injection pump. The oil exits the pump through the front into the gear case. The pump can't run out of oil unless the engine runs dry so as you can see there is no need to put any oil in the pump.

There are a couple of potential causes for the solenoid not pulling up during crank mode. The most common reason in my experience is the solenoid relay. It it the large relay on the firewall, right near the back of the pump. The contacts go bad. You might want to try taking it apart and cleaning the contacts. I cleaned mine about a year ago. Been working flawlessly since. The other reasons might be a poor wiring connection to the solenoid or bad solenoid.

Also, as CumminsPower98 says, the pump is lubed with pressurized engine oil. It can't run out of oil unless the engine is out too.

Thanks for the replies. I was concerned about the oil. Wasn't aware that it was fed from the engine. I found the cause after a little bit of looking around. Was looking at the blue fusable link when I noticed the nut for the positive battery terminal was just about off. took it off and cleaned all of the wires and everything works now. Thanks for the help.
