the pinion seal is leaking on my dana 80 and i was wondering what all there is to changing one do i just unbolt the yoke and slap in a new seal or is there something i have to mess with with the gears meshing in the diff and are there any crush washers or anything like in som rear ends that have to be replaced

Mine was leaking when I got the truck so I replaced it. This job requires a puller because the yoke is a press fit. Also the nut requires a torque of 450-500 ft. lbs. so a big torque wrench is required but since I don't have one that big i just marked the nut, yoke and pinion shaft in relation to each other and used a 3/4" air impact to remove and reinstall. There are no crush sleeves on Dana axles, just shims so it's pretty easy. make sure you have no play in your pinion shaft before removal, which could be causing the leak and require more in depth work.

What you may find on yours as I did with my pinion yoke. . is that over time the seal wore a groove in the shaft. Changing the seal was not going to make any difference... it would still leak. So I had to change the pinion yoke along with the seal.

Has not leaked since...
