Yes, I'm the guy with the cracking alternator bracket listed below. Went to take if off to weld, and guess what? The power steering gearbox that the stealership replaced at about 20,000 miles is doing the same thing. Anybody know of an aftermarket gearbox?

I am so tired of this stuff vehicles. I dumped my Ford because it was always locked in park and the dealership couldn't figure out the problem. I figured it out, I dragged that piece of crap down the street backwards until it got out of park... .

I thought the Dodge truck was a good move, now find myself in the same boat. I guess it's time to pay for a Hyundai. At least that piece of crap wont cost me $40,000.

My list of fixes so far:

power steering gearbox

ignition

engine and transmission ECM reprogramming X2

alternator bracket

floor heater door

now,the ps gearbox again...

What next?

Absolutely Distraught.

Have you tried any junk yards? Or as they like to be called "Auto recycling centers" That would probably be the cheapest route.

It's a 2003 - didn't think there would be much of a chance, besides, they probably wrecked it before it had a chance to go bad. Thanks though.

If you want to try that route, I can make a few phone calls here in New England. Maybe we could find one with side or rear collision. Let me know.

Are you sure that it is not a blown out seal on the steering box. I had the top seal (stainless steel) crack on the steering box and it caused a pretty bad leak. i thought the box was bad, until I removed it from the truck and found that it was just a bad seal. $15 bucks later for a new seal (dealer only item) and a little time, I had a steering box with out a major leak.

Something fishy is going on. Dealership replaced the gearbox again and then tried to nail me again for the extended warranty deductible. Get's even better - had the cracked alternator bracket TSB - replaced it. Wouldn't cover it under the engine 100,000 warranty because it wasn't a moving part. They decided to not charge me for the gearbox, but still nailed me $50 for the alternator bracket.

I should have bought a yugo - at least I would have gotten what I paid (or didn't pay) for.
