I have a 2001 with 6 speed and 4. 10 gears with a MagTech rear differential cover. I am seeing an oil leak on the passenger side rear of the differential. ; mainly on where the axle and differential cover are pressed together. It is also wet on the Front side of the differential and axle. I just know when I take this to Dodge they are going to make a big stink about the MagTech differential cover. I know this in not the problem it has been on for a 1. 5 years 20k miles and never has leaked before. I am planning on not removing the cover I want them to know what have done to date. Trying to be honest thinking I will be treated honestly; yea right.

My question is have you other TDR members seen a leak occur between the differential housing and the axle and is this typical and/or how should I "prime" the local Dodge dealer? I would like to be able to tell him what the TDR world experience has been; i. e. this is occurring and the repair is replacement of entire axle. Or better yet is there a TSB on this problem. Any input would be appreciated. I only have 25k total miles. I would prefer that they replace in lieu of repair of components.

Sometimes it is difficult to find the source of a leak, particularly if it has been there for awhile and covered a large area. My first step would be to thoroughly clean the area and then watch closely to see where the leak actually occurs. It may not be where you thought it was. This is the technique a Mercedes dealer used on my old 240D. They even had some type of powder they used to help pinpoint leaks.

Hopefully you will find the differential cover has developed a leak which can happen at any time and is a quick fix.
