The Short Version of the Story and Questions... ...

I lost a hard transmission cooler line at a bend near the transmission on my 99 2500 ISB, QC 4x4.

Has any other members lost one of these hard lines?

If soo where did it break?

Any one know of a company making a flexable, braided line to replace the stock hard transmission cooler lines?

When I was under there with the truck running I could see how much these lines vibrate. A fatigue crack has to be in the future for any of these hard lines.

The Long Version of the Story... ... .

Was towing up to NH and after checking my fluids at a fuel stop, I found the Auto transmission fluid down about a quart.

Got underneath to take a look and found the frame rail under the driver's side, underside of the cab, front drive shaft, among other things full of AT fluid. It seems it was dripping from somewhere and the front drive shaft flung it all over making finding the leak impossible. I cleaned everything up, added fluid and drove for another 50 miles and checked it. It was down about 1/2 quart and this time I was able to find the highest point that was wet. It seemed to be the second bend on the front most cooler line on the AT. I was able to "squeeze" that point a bit and got a thumb full of AT fluid.

Patched up the line at that point since I was pretty sure that it was probably the leak, and sure enough I stopped loosing soo much fluid. When I got up to where we were camping in NH, I located a dealer in Littleton, CrossTown Dodge... They were great. Wish they could be my dealer down here on the Island. Cant say enough about these guys... . Squezed me in, ordered a new line, squeezed me in again and replaced the line. And all with a smile. Never said a thing about my Mag-Hytech pan, just plain old helpfull with a smile. (I know the pan has nothing todo with the lines, but with the BS other guys got about the rear end pan... I was holding my butt cheeks tightly together when they looked at it  )

Thanks

Anybody have an idea if and or where there is a supplier for replacement flexable transmission lines?

I don't know of anyone offering these, but I have to believe that they are not too difficult to fabricate yourself. I haven't looked at the fittings to see what type they are, but I am sure they are readily available. If you don't want to fab them yourself, just go to a decent industrial/hydraulic hose shop and they will do it. Or if you want to get fancy, pick up some braded stainless (Aeroquip) hose. I would personally recommend the hose from a hydraulic shop that has the outer braded cover made of cloth. This hose is rated for several hundred PSI, and high temps. The stainless looks cool, but it will cut through just about anything it touches like a hacksaw  due to the vibration.

Good Luck
