Here I am

learned something about the Volumizer today

Anybody have dyno numbers for a "600" with a banks 6 gun?

So I was out testing the Volumizer box today and I hooked up my OBD scanner on the laptop so I could watch the various parameters. I was particularly interested in boost -- my mechanical boost gauge of course shows actual boost, but the OBD-2 boost information comes directly from the ECM and tells me how the box performs its boost fooling.

Well what I found out is that the volumizer re-maps boost to new values like the Ramifier does, so that the low-end comes in strong. sure enough, boost ramps very quickly up to 20 psi or so, even when actual boost is at 10 -12 psi.

So that explains the strong low end of the Volumizer. they've been doing boost re-mapping for some time now and didn't bother telling anyone :D.

I updated the matrix to reflect that

Are you going to test it stacked with the VA duration? I was interested in that combo as I'm sure you saw in the other thread. Let us know and thanx for all great work and info!

yup, sure will. even though I've said I think Volumizer and Ramifier are too strong for the VA, I'll let the data speak for itself. I can tell you that the Volumizer is strong enough in its own right, producing black smoke when you get on it down low. thats the fancy boost fooling going on like the Ramifier does. Sure is interesting to me that PDQ has been doing that for about a year and they just kept quiet about it. I guess they didn't figure that method in and of itself was worth yelling about, and they just prefered to be known for the strong low end and not the method used to obtain it.

Anyone know how much they "up" the fuel pressure to?

Also wondering if the power is only felt above 1900 rpm, which is where their website says they will be felt.

I'm working on measureing pressure on all the boxes I test but I'm not there yet. If I'm succesful I'll post all the fuel pressures. Based on the HP claims, really this is a 100 HP pressure box so they've got to be in the 26,500 region in my opinion. without measureing it, though, I can't say for sure.

re: 1900. I'd say that has to be the minimum RPM where they make maximum power :). you definately feel it below 1900 though. This is one of those boxes where if you like a responsive start, you will smile. The responsiveness comes from boost-- low boost fueling, essentially.

I added a Volumizer report in the matrix

Doug,

Good to see you are back on the test site again.

I assume you are feeling close to 100% now?

I finally am back in town and I will let you know what the stacked VA's do tonight or tomorrow.

Has anyone had problems with this box and it throwing codes? Would this be a good towing box... ... ... ... ... . anyone using this please chime in.

Thanks

My box is over a year old and been on two different '03s and never thrown a code. I have the 0-60-100hp option. Probably the best upgrade I've done on my truck.

Haven't hear of anyone at any time experiencing codes on the Volumizer. It certainly works as advertised, but as I say I can't really see an "oh yea" difference in EGTs from a non-timing box 100 pressure box like the Quadzilla.

let us know on the VA stack, EEngle.

DLeno,

I may have mentioned it before but I'm confused on the Quadzilla, thier website says it does modify injection tioming (at least the box for the 03), here is a samll quote from the website:

"The new Quadzilla Adjustable Cummins Power Module modifies injector timing and utilizes this high pressure system to make tuning adjustments for fuel mileage and horsepower. "

So is it a pressure only or does it really have connections and smarts to do timing as well???

edit: I also sent an e-mail to them on Tuesday with no response yet. I thought someone form there posted on here, if they are watching this thread maybe they can clarify??

yea I've talked to them about that. the site hasn't been updated for a long time (since they pulled the race module from the market) and it really isn't very clear. Anyway the timing comments refer to the 140 HPadjustable race module -- not the towing module which is pressure only. The race module really does (did) do timing by connecting to the cam and crank sensor, in addition to the MAP and fuel pressure sensors. Thats the box they are bringing back to market with some updates to the timing board

As far as the EGT's what are you seeing with this box on? Are they comparable to a EZ? I read where it takes 30 minutes to insatll is it a hard job to do

Thanks

JIM

The Volumizer

Dleno we hooked up the DRB to my truck with the Volumizer hooked up to it. With the chip turned off if I rember correctly with the chip turned off the line pressure showed 18,XXX. With the chip on 60hp it showed 15,XXX. With the chip on 100hp it showed about 12 to 13,XXX.

Thanks Brad

If that's the fuel LINE pressure and not the fuel RAIL pressure, then I would guess that as fuel rail pressure is increased by the box, the increased demand would tend to drop fuel line pressure.

If I'm thinking about it straight, the line going to the pump would be what I call "line" pressure and after the pump would all be "rail" pressure. The "line" pressure is like what you get of the fuel pump form the tank (17 psi with my FASS). I thought the "rail" pressures were up in the 20 - 26k range.
