I change my own oil on our trips. I would recommend either Fairbanks or Ancorage. There just isn't much in Tok. Lots more options in the bigger cities.

Two of us took all the equipment we needed to change our own oil and did it in a out of business parking lot in Fairbanks. Took the used oil to a service center and they were glad to get it. Maybe used it in a used oil heater. We bought the oil up there but took along our filters. Changed my fuel filter in Skagway. Have a great trip. Do take a day and do the railroad out of talkeetna. We missed it but will do it on the next trip. Rob

On my first trip I changed my own oil in a pull out. On the last trip, Aug 06, I had the Dodge dealer in Anchorage change it with my 7 year free oil and filter change coupon. There are a lot of Wal-Marts around that can change oil. First, I'd go to Costco, buy A case Of Delo400 and take it to Wal-Mart, along with your own Fleetguard oil filter. Wal-Mart will only charge you a minimal fee when you furnish your own oil and filter.

AK Oil change

I just made the trip from Alaska to Arizona about 2 weeks ago. I would recommend the Dodge dealer in Anchorage for an oil change if you're not going to be in position to do it yourself. As was stated, there's not a whole lot in Tok as far as places to do oil changes. I haven't done an oil change in Fairbanks for a long time but when I did I always used the quick lube place on Peger Road across from the DMV. They always did a good job for me. I picked up the Royal Purple oil and new filters before I left Alaska so I could do my oil change as soon as I arrived here.

If you are looking for a place to change the oil yourself, there is a "auto hobby shop" style garage in Palmer AK right off HWY 1. I can't remember the name right now, maybe someone who still lives up there can chime in. They rent out garage stalls by the hour. The other option is to do it yourself in a lot somewhere and you can take your used oil to a local Schucks Auto Supply for disposal. Have a great trip.
