Tow Ball Help

Got Grizzly Gate

Want to replace my trailer lights with LED style. Was wondering if the LED lights will function properly? My concern is the truck flashing unit. I have a stock '97 with factory trailer tow package. Any comments apreciated.

We had no problem with LED's on our trailers but we took them off and went back to standard lights... .

In the winter, the snow blows and drifts around the back of the truck and trailer... . we found that in an average day in the winter the LED's don't get hot enough to melt off the snow...

We'd go to the back of the trailer and find the whole trailer white and we finally were so worried we'd be rear ended we changed them back.....

However I really like how bright they are, and the low current draw...

Yes, they should work fine. I changed out the incandescent lamps on my HH for LEDs last year. My '08 Dodge is wired so that the flasher circuit in the computer is not sensitive to the type of bulbs/lamps used in whatever trailer I have connected and I believe your truck is the same.

If you attempt to replace the lamps on your truck with LEDs it is a different story. I had to use additional resistors to create a load when I converted my truck lights (on the CM bed) to LED.

If you do have problems w/the LEDs you can get a flasher that replaces the heat sensitive one that is made for the LEDs.

Jim,

To help out the snow piling up on the rear of your trailer, get a set of Airtabs
Home : Airtab

They reduce the suction and drag on the rear by making the wind go straight from the rear of your trailer.

My trailers are big boxes, about 6 1/2 ft tall and have doors or curtains on the sides... for loading and off loading skids of clutches... I went and bought a wind deflector like what is used on school buses... . 6 ft wide but it still won't down blow enough to keep the snow from drifting onto the back of the trailers...

We have some other larger trucks as well. . . with boxes on them... 1/2 the lights to the rear are LED's and 1/2 are the sealed bulb units... In the winter we have 1/2 the lights showing on some of the bad days...

I am also interested in replacing the lights on my 5th wheel with LED. Do you have a suggestion on what lights are available and where to purchase them?

Thank you, Keith

i swapped out to 4" round LED stop-tail-turn units when I built my flat bed and have no issues.

i bought my set of 4" flat mount LEDs at Harbor Freight for $20/pair

this is on my 97

Heres where I got all my LED Trailer lights

LEDTrailerlights.com - LED lights for RVs, cargo / utility trailers, boat and watercraft trailers and trucks

These lights have 14 LEDs and 6 of them are angled front and rear. . bright enough to see in the day... And they are the same dimension as Regular Bulb Lights that are on the trailer so you use the same holes.

LEDTrailerLights.com - Maxxima M23015R, M23015Y LED Clearance, side marker lamp light for RV, cargo & utility trailers, trucks

Scroll half way down this list and see the 60 LED Oval Light. . you will need a Rubber grommet and mount if you need it.

LEDTrailerLights.com - LED Stop Turn Tail (STT) lights for horse, cargo, utility trailers, RV and 4x4 applications

Not knowing which kind of lights you have on the back of your fiver..... PPL motorhome has a light kit that replaces the lense with an LED light. I got 6 of them on the back of my Wilderness. I've had comments from drivers about how nobody can miss the back of the trailer.

i replaced all of my tt bulbs with led's i think it was 47 on the trailer and 16 on the truck. most came from superbrightled.com i used two complete tail lights from car quest made by grote for our large trucks i have the air tabs and work great

I purchased mine from the same vendor as Grumpytrkr above. PPL has an excellent website with photos and descriptions of the various lamps they offer. They have complete LED lamp replacement units, LED plug in replacements for your incandescent bulbs, etc. They offer a wide selection of replacement lamps for various Bargman lights to replace the units on most travel trailers. Fair prices and good service as well.

How Many?

I have had the Superbright site up a number of times, would love to get some bulbs. They offer 1157 in many configurations and numbers of LED's, and I don't know just what I want. Has anyone any imput on which ones are too dim or too bright? (Too bright, ain't that something like having too much fun?)

we bought one each and hooked them up on our bench to see wich ones we wanted, we used the single three watt one. it some how lowers the voltage on the tail or marker and is brighter on turn or brake than oem

I have had AirTabs on the back of my 25' enclosed snowmobile/car hauler for 5. 5 years. They keep the back of the trailer clean and clear and in the snow, as I pulled trailer from Salt Lake City to Virginia 5 years ago and have logged 10K miles pulling in the past 5 years.
