OK,

I have done lots of research on this site and the net regarding LED tails. I love LED'S. My wife has a Lexus with them and they are on lots of high end vehicles. I like the look and the "quickness" of them when you step on the brake. Here is what I found:

You can go the do-it-yourself route and try and convert our existing lights or you can buy one of the few existing taillights that are ready to bolt on. I have already determined which brand I want but need your opinions on the model to get. By the way, on the third brake light there is only one out there that I could find. I ordered the clear lens for my truck. Check them out at this site: www.reconaccessories.com They also have clear cab lights for anyone that wants to convert theirs to clear and LED at the same time.

Please check out this link and tell me what you would get if you were me. I have a 2005 Dodge Ram Quad 2500 with the BLACK SPORT OPTION. Which LED tails would you go with of the four on the page? Bear in mind that my cab 3rd brake light will be a clear lens.

Does anyone already have any of these lights on their truck? If so what did you think? I called the company and was told that everything that you need is in the kit. It is supposed to be a very simple installation.

I am surprised that nobody has responded. Am I the only one that is really into LED's? Look around you. Most all new traffic signals are LED and the old one's are being replaced with them. Many new vehicles have them. I am going to build a new house within the next 6 months. I am planning to include them for sure in my kitchen and bathrooms, perhaps in the whole house due to their energy efficiency and the fact that they do not create a heat load. (building in hot and humid Houston TX)

It is OK if you don't like LED, just help me with the style. I am really bad about knowing what looks best.

So tell me what you think would look best on a solid black truck with the sport option. Should I go with, clear and chrome, black and clear, carbon fiber look and clear, or the same red lense but with LED's.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike I have always like the carbon fiber lights, they have a real clean look that is not to ricey. Almost look like they belong on the truck w/o standing out too much. And with a black truck I wouldn't want to go with clear then there will be these tail lights that just stick out and look awkward. Hope this helps.

I like the last ones from APC, I would also be sure you can return them if they cause a problem with the lamp out system or the directionals. I know the replacement LED bulbs do not work in the 3rd gens without modification so they have enough resistance.

I love LEDs. I'm all for them. Problem is, I actually like the conservative stock taillight lenses and I think the aftermarket ones on that Stylin' Concepts site are, well, ugly. When I eventually convert to LEDs, I'll make my own to fit in the stock lenses.

The last one on their site was the basic stock taillight lens but fitted with the LED's.

As far as clear sticking out, I was going by my wife's black Lexus RX330. It is solid black with clear tails. It is chrome on the inside and you can see red lens inside. It came with LED brake lights and tail lights. It looks very good on the vehicle and does not look bad to me. The clear outer lens on it looks good, but it was a factory deal. I don't want these to look like they don't belong on the truck so I do want to be careful about my choice.

I really did not care for the first one either but figured either the black or carbon fiber look black one might not look bad with an all black truck. I will keep all this in mind and then go to plan B later and get an opinion from my wife! She has never given me bad info yet.

Anybody else!

Thanks,

Mike

Every light on my truck is L. E. D. From the front side marker lights to my license plate lights.

Any recommendations on cab marker lights? I would like to replace the orange lenses with clear ones with amber LED's, however I have been unable to locate a clear lens replacement. From what I understand, the Recon's are not just a lens replacement, not too interested in a bunch of cobbled together wiring.

The cab lights AND the HMSL are the only exterior incandescent bulbs remaining, except the headlights of course, but those did get the Depo sport light upgrade.

Well maybe. I thought I had read on this site that ALL of the Recon's required a Scotch lock or some such connector, in other words the OEM sockets wouldn't fit their lenses and you had to splice in their sockets and pigtail??? I can get the LED's lots of places, OEM style clear lenses is the problem.

Can anyone who has used the Recon's confirm or deny what I have posted?

I just did a quick search on this site and found this thread https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/2nd-generation-ram-forum-no-engine-transmission-discussions/127582-clearance-lights.html, unless Recon has changed, the cut and splice is true!

I e-mailed Recon, here is the direct quote response, "Part #264145CL will directly replace your cab lights with no splicing, simple plug and play installation. Order those and you will be all set. "

Not sure I believe it yet, BUT hearing nothing to the contrary here in the next day or so, I think I will order a set.

SHG,

From what I have been able to find out about Recon is this, they are a complete l. e. d housing not just a lens. They mount the same way and utitlize a pig tail to connect to the factory light socket. Now if you choose not to use the pigtail then yes you need to hard wire them. I read a few reviews that the pigtail can cause some flickering problems so hard wiring them is suggested.

Quick note regarding Recon accessories. I have done business with them and highly recomend them.

They are knowledgeable, honest, and respond quickly to customer questions and issues.
