I am pulling the trigger on a Leer 100R for my truck. I have heard some good some bad. Do many of you have one and do you like it. Besides it matching my truck I went with the front slider that also removes for easy cleaning, Thule rack rails for the top and of course the carpet kit with the dome light. I get it in a couple of weeks from the manufacturer and am excited to see how it looks. . :D

That style sorta looks like my old one in my old 2001. I did the carpet kit that has the cut foam that matches the ribs in the bed so when you kneel on it, you dont feel the ribs... Called "Bedrug" BedRug

I did a liner in the inside of the shell with velour and spray glue. . put a flourescent light inside as well as a radio and wired up LED Lights on the sides you see there.

Looks real nice. I mean't the carpet kit was for the cap, but thats a great idea for the bed. I see you have the built in racks on the cap. Can you hang the cap from those bars, like in the garage?

I was thinking about a "Leer" as well. But I stack my windsurfing boards on the driver side. They are all either just 8' or under. With the sloping rear glass I dont think that they would fit above the bed rails. Do you know what the interior roof line length is? So I have been looking hard at the "Caravan Camper" with cargo doors.

The Roof line will be pretty long. If the glass is a problem, you can leave it open as it has the gas struts. The interior space of the cap is at least the length of the bed at the rails. Up high, it is straight up the rear of the cab but it is angled in the rear.

My Dodge is an aluminum flatbed. But I do have a leer topper on the Toyota Tacoma. I must say it matches the truck perfectly. Have not had it long enough for any issues to crop up.

I'm going with an A. R. E. top for my GMC 1/2 ton. Less $$ for the same options, plus I like the looks better, and it has just one latch handle in the middle instead of one on each side. JMHO

I finally caved on the convenience and security of a canopy too. I found a used Raider canopy for 1/3 the price of a new one. The add said blue short box canopy. I called and the lady said its off a 2004 short box blue Dodge... ... ... . I said I'll be there in an hour... ... ... ..... The canopy kinda kills the hot rod pickup look, but I guess its "sleeper" time now... ... ...

Update

Two months later with the A. R. E. I really like it. I like having only one handle (only an option on the most expensive Leer, if memory serves... ) Had sliding side windows, and the front window was a tilting slider. It had a slider, and it also folded down for cleaning. There are lots of options for it, similar to LEER. It's a good cap, and it's less than the LEER.

I like having only one handle

I agree, you only have to unlock one t-handle to get in. When I made this top single t-handle rear doors were not available with the curved bottom rail on the rear door. Most single handle rear doors have a straight bottom rail and fit curved tailgates poorly to say the least. When I made the top for my wife's 99 Dodge 1500 I pulled the bottom rail off the door and manually curved it to fit the contour of the Dodge tailgate. By doing this it also allows that the bulb seal just barely touches the tailgate as you can see in the photo. Looking at the other photo you can see how much it curves to the t-handle. If you try to fit a straight bottom railed canopy door to a truck that has a curved tailgate you will have gaps in both the corners and tight in the center. This will excessively wear the weatherstrip on the bottom rail and rub through the paint on the truck's tailgate in the center. These curved tailgates pretty much started in the 90's and today most tailgates on trucks are curved. So from now on you will look at the fit on those rear doors to the tailgate as never before.
