This is for a neighbor. His truck is a 2003, dually, 4X4, automatic, 140,000 miles. In 2H there is a clicking coming from the left front wheel area. In 4H or 4L there is no noise. Any suggestions as to the culprit?
Would bet money it's the axle shaft u-joint, DC has replaced 3 on my 2008 3500 C&C in less than 40k miles. . The oem replacements don't last any better than original. next one's I'll probably have to pay for so I'll do myself with greaseable joints from Quad 4x4.
I've got a similar clicking noise coming from the same wheel. It only appears to click while under load since I can't duplicate the noise after jacking up the front. I too thought it might be the u-joint but I have the dynatrac hubs and the joint is not spinning with the hubs disengaged. I plan to take it in for its first brake job and will have the mechanic check into it. I'll post any findings I come across.
